ao, i remember reading somewhere that the volume of exhaust is not only effected by pipe length, pipe diameter, and muffler design, but also the interruptions in exhaust flow. the example they used was that of a catalytic converter. same exhaust, with and without cat, will be different volume levels due to the cat interrupting the exhaust flow and breaking up the sound waves.

does that sound right to you guys?

reason im asking this is that it turns out i either have to scrap my entire exhaust and start over again, or find a way to quiet what i have. the resonators, longer mufflers, etc are not options due to packaging. so im looking at interrupting the exhaust flow to eliminate drone and reduce volume, but only if it will work.

with all that being said, anyone ever use the car chemistry disc style, or the dynatech cones? how well do they work at reducing noise in conjunction with mufflers and full exhaust?

so, anyway, lets talk some noise cancellation theory, and some practical experience with header baffles.

Michael

i will be trying the baffles discussed in this thread from speedway in the not too distant future, i plan to record a before and after, i have high hopes because i expect the "before" will get me into trouble

I plan to use the following in series immediately after the headers, Note: i have 3.5" pipes

Instead of the Schoenfeld mufflers, you could use this,

which is what is inside the Schoenfeld mufflers. Save a few bucks this way. The auger mufflers do work pretty good. I used them in the tailpipes with Magnaflows mufflers, controlled sound pretty good.
