View Full Version : How to tell if the right motor mounts have been used?

The motor on my car seems to be tilted to the rear, and the cap is right up close to the firewall.

How would I tell if the mounts for the motor are correct?

However, knowing that there is some flex and movement is some mounts, I'm thinking it's the transmission crossmember.

The mechanic installed the 700R4 with a standard TH400 or TH350 crossmember and found a mount to fit.

With the tailhousing being to low, would that tilt the motor enough to see?

Are there measuerments I can take? I'd like to make sure it's the crossmember before ordering a new one and then have to wait longer while I get new motor mounts.

GM Special Performace crate 350ci motor, with an 87 700R4.

Thanks!

Sounds like your trans is too low... space it up to get distributer clearence. You can pull the carb and put an angle finder on it. Most of the engines I have checked are at 6 degrees down rearward.

Cool, thanks! I'll try that.

I'm fairly certain the tranny is too low, just if I have to move the tranny, I'd like to make sure the motor mounts are correct too.
