The previous owner installed hydroboost on my Chevelle.

It works perfectly, but my power steering fluid gets a little hot when I autocross.
I have a good cooler kicking around my garage so I figure I’d install it along with a filter.
I currently don’t have any issues and I don’t want to create any new ones.
Obviously, I’ll be putting the cooler and filter in the return line.

I have read about problems with brakes dragging if the return lines are not plumbed correctly.
Currently the return line T is 6 or 8 inches from power steering pump (non-remote reservoir).
The line from the hydroboost is 3 feet long and the line from the steering box is just under 2 feet.
I’m thinking that in an effort to NOT create a new problem, that I would simply install the filter and cooler in the power steering return line.

This would simply make the power steering return line longer.
The Tee’s proximity would stay close to the pump/reservoir.

I would only be cooling the fluid returning from the steering box, but the situation would be improved.
The cooler is on the large size anyway.

Thoughts?
Any input would be great!

Well, I've done this many times, and It's never the same twice. Two things may need attention. The 'T' is a bad idea. I know it's common, but it can cause a pressure imbalance in the returns, and you will fell it on the auto-x coarse. Kee the factory return port for the hydro bypass return, and add a second port for the p/s box return. If your installing a filter/cooler, and I would, you need to step the line size on the final return line to #8, or 1/2". It's easy to weld on a fitting to the p/s pump can, usually on the side, about the same hieght as the factory return port. I run through the filter first, then the cooler, then run #8 line back to the resivoir. A little extra work, but no headaches ever.
