Jeff, how much would it cost to rent AMP for a day ? We could do a cruise and dinner Fri night and AMP saturday and red top autocross Sunday ? I think if we could get people to commit to it and pay a non-refundable entry fee that might help . I know I would pay more to get to run on AMP and Im sure others would also .

One thing to note :
As of today .AMP is not finished yet . If it was , I would have made the arrangements to rent it for this years event. We are going to tour the unfinished track to make possible arrangments for next years event (2012 ) .
The facility should be ready by then , and we can get our money together.

This would give us the facilities to Road-Course and Autocross at the same place ..
We could break the cars up into two groups and swap after lunch .
AMP will have a 2.17 ? mile road course and an 8/10ths mile kart track ..
The Kart Track will be 26 feet wide . We could use it to autocross ..
I would like to rent the place for 2 days ..( I think that is required anyway )

I haven't priced the rental of AMP lately ..
I priced it last year ,( before the grading and pavement was even started ) .
The price has gone up since then ..

Is there any way to lock in "this year's" rate now for NEXT year? Put a small deposit down on a certain weekend? You KNOW the rate will go up next year...or at least I would think it would. I'd chip in $50 to lock that place in. And I'm sure a few more of us would do the same.

Jeff, David and Adam and everybody else I met last year thanks alot you guys were awesome! Friday for sure, I have to see AMP and cruise'n the hills around Canton. That's where the 'bird is happy, open, curvy road. Saturday and Sunday's autocross might be another issue. I had a really frustrating time last year cutting tight around those damn cones with my stupid rack&pinion's enlarged turning radius. The Red Top course is pretty cramped for my setup. I could not get the tight turns I had with the box. Maybe if I could just learn to drive with my right foot instead of the steering wheel I could kick the tail around...I need to practice.
But I do like to watch, and maybe if it's not too crowded a run to show those scary cones I'm not a chicken bird!

Hey! I totally saw the brrrd the other day cruising down Old Norcross as you crossed Breckenridge. I was in the Civic, not the truck. I know you hate the R&P and the reduced radius, but at least that thing has A/C! I miss mine!!

You should definitely come. Maybe we talk someone with a larger car to set up the course - my vote is Bill in the rollback! hee hee

STILL no A/C in the 'bird Adam! I used the money to upgrade the front brakes to 6-piston Willwoods. I decided to make it stop right and just suffer another summer. The single piston GM calipers and tiny rotors I had on the front before were not doing the job. I did put in a heater hose shutoff valve in to keep the hot water out of the core and it helps in the 97 degree sunny afternoon sun!

1979 Ford F100. Nothing to speak of, but has a crate 351w that is 40 over, rebuilt c4, ceramic coated junk headers and some custom gauges. Spent the last year working on it, and should have it running and driving in the next two weeks.

as a spectator, bring your camera, a fold-out chair, and some water / drinks. It gets REALLY hot out there. Best option would be to throw a cooler with some ice, water and snacks in it, and keep it in your car (unless of course you are autoxing). Last year they opened up the kitchen counter at the auction house, which made it nice for folks that needed some chow or drinks.

Other than that, just come out and be prepared to see some fast, fun and cool racing (and possibly a few spin-outs, cone-kills and burn outs).

Anyone know if Finch is coming out again this year?

Car security overnight.... Anyone thinking about overnight watch schedule ? We do that at the Rod Run sometimes. Is it even an issue ?

Also, I'm coming from SC down I-85, and wondered if there is a better route around Atlanta than I-285 ? I don't mind backroads, but I have Atlanta stop/go traffic.

Looks like it will be Friday evening. I plan on leaving around 3-4 PM, and it's about a 3 hour drive to Cartersville.

HectorM52

Hwy 20 in Buford (Exit 115 on I-85) is a direct shot over. With traffic it will suck...

You could just mapquest something...just pick a few bigger highways and you'll be okay. Hwy 369 (I think that's right) comes to mind as it crosses from Gainesville to Canton... But at rush hour they'll suck as well.

I-285 at 6:00 on a Friday will probably suck...but in the event you get a late start it might be starting to clear up a bit.

Are you seeing a pattern?

RS_Customs
07-29-2011, 11:08 AM
hwy 53 off 85 is another way to go it connects to a couple other roads and hits hwy 20 not far from canton. I go across the back roads that way to Road Atlanta. Google map link below is the way I usually cut across the back roads.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like the Hwy 53 route across lake Lanier to Hwy 20, looks like a nice ride. The last few times I came through ATL on 85 or 285 was miserable !

Touching on the car security deal again, I'm a little concerned about theft or vandalism. My car's not a high dollar car by any means, but still concerned nonetheless. Maybe some of us can discuss this Friday evening and form an overnight watch ? Any other suggestions ?

you could probably get a few folks with trucks / trailers to block in the cars that are on the pavement, kind of like an old wagon train. You can also contact the hotel and inquire about their security staff / policy. Short of that, you can always remove the battery / coil wire / etc. to make it a little harder for someone to grab.

you could probably get a few folks with trucks / trailers to block in the cars that are on the pavement, kind of like an old wagon train. You can also contact the hotel and inquire about their security staff / policy. Short of that, you can always remove the battery / coil wire / etc. to make it a little harder for someone to grab.

Good suggestions. I have a theft deterrent sytem, but otherwise will just cover it and hope for the best. What time does everyone plan on going over to RedTop Saturday morning ?

Some cars got stolen from Year One back a couple years back. Definitely take security seriously..

Thanks David, that's a very generous offer ! I think I'll be okay, especially since there will be alot of us there, but it's a good option to have.

Trailer is loaded and I'm rolling out in 30 minutes ! See you all there.

I'll see everyone tomorrow morning. Too many sparks flying right now to come out and join up, cranking out one of our Nova / Chevy II LS swap radiators to bring with us tomorrow.

weather.com shows 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms tomorrow, mainly in the afternoon. Hopefully it will clear out for a few hours and then break above cartersville. Should be fun either way.

There was a Parnelli Jones edition Mustang to represent for you this year. He crushed us by 2 seconds. Too bad he liked to run over cones, otherwise he could have been up by three seconds.

Wow tons of fun today! Weather was great, overcast in the morning and then it broke to sunny and pretty hot. Also the tour of the Atlanta Motorsport Park was really cool.

If you are not here.........your missing a great time!
