I have had my car painted in this fashion for over 10 years, and I'm just looking to change things up a little bit. I have really like the look of satin black on a gloss base. My painter wouldn't let me do it :pat: So now that the vinyl wraps for high end exotics seem to be pretty popular with the, why not try it on my old third gen Camaro? What I'm looking to do is cover the exsisting teal heritage stripes with a single wide stripe the width of the hood line, and starting at the end of the hood before the nose. The teal in the vents on the GFX would also get covered.
Next idea is while wrapping things, should I wrap the polished lip of the wheels for satin hoop, with a gloss center?? The car has custom polished billet emblems, polished Baer calipers, and center caps of wheels have a polished billet ring??? Would polished tidbits look weird with satin wheel lips?
Guys have suggestions??? Opinions???
Anyone with Photoshop skills wanna try and help me out??:twothumbs

Well, I for one love third gens....grew up around them. IMHO, and this is totally just my opinion, but I might be inclined to just do a solid paint job and ditch the accents and overlays. To me, the hood pieces (idk what you call them, louvers?) really look strange painted or covered a different color, because they are faux pieces anyway. Also, you can't really add striping to the top because of the glass tops. I think it looks killer as it is myself, just make the whole car black. If you really wanted striping you could always do a hockey strip or the grand sport fender stripe. Car is awesome though man, I hope to have a 3rd gen half as nice some day.

Wow! you car is clean. i like it, but i understand your want to do away with the teal..... i too think one solid color would be best. if you want to add some excitement with a vinyl wrap, why not do something really fun like the car next to yours in the bottom pic???
admittedly, this may not be the best place to be asking this question. i bet most here are thinking it looks great, lets upgrade the suspension and drive the wheels off it. :)

I grew up with the 3rd gen also and like them alot . I dont like the accents painted or crazy grafix on them . I would do the car solid black or I have seen some nice 2 tones by using the top fo the fender line to seperate the 2 colors. Black over silver or over red would be my 2 choices . I'm helping a buddy do a red with black covertible top and we may paint the top part of car black .

When I looked my first thought was, "Why change it if it looks so nice already?" I love 3rd gens...in fact I own one myself. Yours is a fine example of a very clean car!

This is my sons paint job on his 3rd gen. He gets alot of compliments on it. Something a little different. The hockey stripe is a custom Vinyl, or checkout his Cardomain site http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3868225/1986-chevrolet-camaro

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really like the paint on the car. I love the heritage stripes that are on it, just toying with the idea of giving the car a little more attitude visually. I like a single color paint job, but black has been done 1000 times on these, and I want it to stand out from the crowd subtly. This is a low cost change I can make to the car for under $300 that is not permanent. The suspension and brakes are done... for now :)
Now if Someone that knew how to photoshop... I would be in business haha!

I like the current stripe layout, and also agree that black/teal combo is a bit dated. (i still like the color though)
All I would do is repaint the hood stripes in flat/satin black, and re-paint the bottom panels to cover up the teal.
Less is more IMO.
The wheels can stay as the are, they look great.

Nice ride, BTW

Thanks! I really like the factory style heritage stripes that it has too. I think that they would look great satin/matte color, but I'm wanting to use the vinyl because its not permanent. I was talking with my guy on this and to cover the outer 1/4" stripe we have to have the vinyl over lay a little larger than the painted stripes... which now makes the stripes very close to each other down the center... This is where the large single stripe to follow the body line of the hood. I think it will look different, yet subtle cause its still black on black.
I'm tossed on the wheels. I feel like if I did the wheels then the headlights/tailights, and any other bright work externally on the car should be tinted/murdered for a reduced contrast???
