Got to see my first Grand Am live and in person this past weekend at VIR. All I can say is WOW! I've seen many forms of racing in my life but none have had quite the wow factor of watching Daytona Prototypes ripping around VIR's 3.27 mile course in 1.45. The race started in the rain, not just a sprinkle mind you, it was raining. When Rojas came by us in the back straight at 100+, up shifted, ran well past 150 throwing a rooster tale higher than the pines, well NASCAR, you need to add some more road courses and put some wipers on them cars. These guys not only raced in the rain, but did so at a pace that was only maybe ten seconds less than dry laps. Between Grand Am and SCCA, I saw three days of first class racing. The SCCA Pro Trans Am class got it done as well.
Very fast and real competitive. Tony Ave can flat drive a race car. If you ever get a chance to go to VIR, do it. I drive several track events there every year and always come away from there with a huge smile and way less stress than I arrive with.
