Tons of aftermarket stuff for these cars, the sky is the limit.

I agree that they aren't a bad car. As a matter of fact, My 2004 GTO was one of the best all around cars I ever owned. The extra horsepower and bigger brakes of the later models only made them better. I have always felt that if they had brought them out as the Chevy Monaro or maybe even the Chevelle, they would have done much better. I have seen some of them running around with turbos making huge horsepower, but most body and visual modifications I see done to them seem to run a little on the tuner side for my tastes.

I have an 05. Stole it off Craigslist with a little over 30K miles on it. With a 400hp LS2 and 6 speed, what is there not to like. I plan on doing Pedders coil-overs and some wheels as soon as I finish my 69 Camaro for the third time.
A lot of people get the HSV parts from Australia for these cars to help make them stand out.

Great driving cars! And one of the nicest interiors GM has ever made. They are kind of "plain" on the looks side so I guess that doomed them. With a nice set of aftermarket wheels they look much nicer in my opinion.

There's plenty of LS related stuff out there, but suspension and brake options are limited. Aero and cosmetic mods are even harder to come by. Wheel wells are ridiculously small too. I have Forgeline wheels 18x9" front and 18x10' rear with BFG tires 255/35 front & 275/35 rear and that's about as big as you can get without fender flares. But as you can see by my 05 Goat, it can be done.
Mods include fully functional shaker, side exhaust, front fascia, rear spoiler, sway bars, DBA rotors, Forgeline wheels and a Lingenfelter enhanced LS3. Drop me a PM if you have any questions!

That is a nice GTO. They are tempting, decent prices, LS1 or LS2 power, independent rear, roomier than an f-body, etc.

Atleast the New GTO was made by pontiac unlike the new Trans Am having to built by the aftermarket. I like the new GTOs, I have thought about getting one. only thing it would have to be a manual.

We have a 2005 GTO (LS2/T-56), and it is a well buttoned-down car.
Here is a good GTO forum: http://www.ls1gto.com/
They should have badged it as the Grand-Prix and avoided all the hating.

I had some custom '70 style Judge stickers made for mine. 3 colors just like the originals. Never got around to putting them on the car before I sold it. I'll hook you up with them if interested...

They get respect from me. In fact, I can almost guarantee a goat will be my next DD. I'm starting to tire of my 944.

I really like the 05/06 models. They have an awesome interior. I also really like the G8-GT. They drive and handle really well. Hate that they went by the wayside. I hear rumblings within GM that Chevrolet is really looking hard at using the Holden platform to bring back the Impala SS. Already have the Caprice Police Package with the running gear. The Chevrolet body does not look as nice as the Pontiac G8 though.

Or just made it the first incarnation of the G8 (which would have fit in with G4, G6, etc.) Wouldn't have mattered though....Pontiac was doomed either way.

And to think, if they hadn't shelved the brand, they'd be rolling in some money from selling the G8 as a Police car.

Actually, they were made by Holden, in Australia. Which is one of the big things that turned everybody against them. The body nearly identical to the Monaro. If they would have put the time into styling like Chevy did Camaro, or like Ford did the Mustang, or like Dodge did the Challenger, we'd all be driving one. (Pontiac guys I mean) But they are a heck of a car as far as the drivetrain and interior. I even like the looks of the 05 and up pretty well with the snorkel scoops and the split dual exhaust. If they hadnt called it a GTO, they'd have been a lot better off as far as acceptance was concerned.

Here's mine...... '06 Completely stock (except for the recent addition of some glass pack mufflers in place of the HUGE stock mufflers.
Love it as a daily driver. HVAC, leather, power everything, 400 hp/400 tq AND >20 mpg! Heck yeah. It definitely isn't a GTO, it IS a Holden. But I like it. Great job GM.
