Being one of Yahoo's articles, I'm surprised they didn't say it had a Hemi.

There was a story about a Mustang that was bought restored and then the guy went to register it they found it to have been stolen many years before. Now the original owner gets a fully restored car 20 yrs later. I think the story was in Hemmings M C.

Theres more to that story. When the original owner was contacted by the AT officer they thought it was a prank and hang up. They had a local officer go out there and assure her it was real, at which point the owner said "its just an old car and not worth her time", then the CHP officer sent her pictures of the car which had undergone a total restoration, and she was interested again

Yeah, real happy to see it again...her first thought is to sell it....so much for sentimental attachments....
I wonder if the insurance company wants their money back?

If it was insured, the original owner wouldn't be getting it back, as the insurance company would now own it.

OH and BTW went from a straight 6 to a 427. There was also a story about a VW van turning up after a similar amount of time.

that's the part they never talk about in these stories. I'm SURE she got a check at the time, which means it's written off and it doesn't belong to her.

i dunno. if it was stolen in 1975 it was just a used car then and probably did not have theft coverage.

Wow. stolen in Newark, NJ in 75. I didn't realize that Newark was such a craphole even back then. Comforting to know that some things will never change.

So a 427 in place of an I6 in a '69 Camaro is suspicious?
My bet is that VIN tag rivets were what raised the red flag.

Also curious about the buyer stating he had the transaction insured. Was he referring to eBay/Paypal or is there another way?

because we all know cars don't get stolen in 'nice' places:rolleyes:
and yes, Newark has always been a craphole. NYC too was probably at its worst in the mid '70s.
