View Full Version : Anyone working for GM here ?
Here in Norway we have some really stupid rules. .... I have a -02 Tahoe. Here in Norway all of these are registerd as trucks OVER 3500 kg. Bbecause of import taxes. These are delivered without rear seats and 2/3 front seat. Because of this "truck title" the road taxes/ toll roads are 3 times higher than a normal car ? This would not be a problem if we could register the car as a "normal car", not truck. Under 3500 kg or as buildt from new ? The Norwegian DOT say they need a document from GM that tell the car is safe at lower weight 2499Kg is OK. The Norwegian importer is not interessted in supplying these documents. They probably don't make any money doing this. Is it possible to get a document from GM in US linked to my car's VIN ?
Tahoes in US what's the total weight of those ?
Thanks!
Olav
After some more investigation the document is: A document that confirms that my car with suspension package C5U according to VIN is safe with total weight 3085 kg. This is the same wight as the door sticker.

Its going to be very hard to get that document from GM. The safety of US vehicles is regulated by the United states Department of Transportation. The office of the USDOT that deals directly with safety standards is the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration). Title 49 of the USC provides the authority for the formation of the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards Act). Theres around 300 sections to the FMVSS and about half of them apply to what you're doing. The freedom of information act allows you to put in a request for the specific filings with the USDOT for GM's specific FMVSS filings.
Long story short just pay the taxes, its easier. An 02 Tahoe is a GMT800 based chassis and come in around 5200lbs depending on options.
