I have a t56 out of a 96 camaro and I want to put it in my 68 camaro. I would like to stay with a mechanical clutch if possible. I have a 383sbc in my car is this possible. Someone said i needed to change the input shaft to a later model ls1 and I could use a mechanical clutch if so what bell housing do i need and do need a adapter plate . Could someone help me out with a parts lists.

You should trade me. :-) I have a trans in the garage that was on my LT1, I sold the motor, but still have the trans, going with an LS motor & the LT1 T56 won't work.

Sorry man, don't know what I was thinking when I read it this morning. Someone does make an adapter kit that allows this tranny to work with the old style mechanical setup. But it is going to cost you more than it is worth. Originally I was going to try & go that route when I put the LT1/T56 in the Monte, but I decided to go the mechanical route, made a bracket to mount the hydraulic master cylinder to, & then I used the setup like it was designed for. No problems, works(ed) great.
