View Full Version : Haven't cut a single wire and I'm already getting in over my head...

I'm trying to make this

this

this

this

and my 67 fastback to all play nice.
I've got a bunch of questions and to be honest, I don't even know where to start. I haven't bought the keyless entry system yet, but I'm strongly considering it. I love the little toys that new cars have and am trying to integrate them into my car, but I'd like to have an idea of what I need to do before I start the whole shebang...
For instance; because ISIS is operated via grounding switches instead of powered ones, can I get the keyless entry system to communicate properly with ISIS? The idea for me behind using ISIS is to eliminate a bunch of the wires going through my firewall and all the way up and down my car, but the trick of ground sensing systems means that I'm not sure where to go with this thing.
Also, the MiMod has an audio output, but it's just a single RCA (IIRC) output. I'm not sure how I get that to hook up with my audio system (which I also haven't bought) yet.
And, if I use the keyless system, does that mean that my RFI setup I bought from ISIS is wasted? I think that it might, and I guess I'm ok with that. I would only be using a keyfob to unlock the doors really; I have no need to turn on the headlights, etc.

I can't help much with the Isis or MiModHP, but can provide some insight on the AK103B...
If you bought an RFID system for your Isis setup, then you should still be able to use that with the pushbutton system. Make sure you order AK-PSB03 instead of the AK-103B ($100 cheaper). The PSB03 is ONLY the push button module and doesn't include the RFID module. That's what I did on my build since I am using a Dakota Digital control to activate the system (see separate thread (https://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?79289-Push-Button-Start-(Advanced-Keys)))
The push button module can be activated by applying a ground ground signal to the purple wire on the 6 pin accessory harness (make sure you set the jumper correctly). I highly recommend grounding it with a relay as this circuit appears to have some leak back. If the Isis activation signal uses a + signal, then you'll definitely need to use the relay, but still pretty simple.
The accessory and ignition wires coming out of the module will need to be wired to your Isis unit to activate those circuits. Again, just use a relay if you need to flip the signal from positive to negative. The module provides 2 starter signals (+ and -), just use whichever one the Isis unit requires (I'm using the + connected to a starter relay in the trunk)
Also wanted to warn you that I was not overly happy with the Lexus push button (your opinion may vary). I ended up using an Infiniti button instead. The hole was a PITA to cut (not round), but the end result looks great.
If you need to use some relays, Radio Shack makes a nice small micro relay (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062481) for around $5. You can't run much current through them, but they are great for isolating or reversing signals.
You can also download the Push Button Start manual HERE (http://advancedkeys.com/docs/Installation%20PSB03.pdf), but there have been some changes that aren't reflected in the online manual (e.g. they now provide a negative starter signal (Purple wire) in addition to the positive signal (White wire))
Let me know if you need any additional information on the push button setup.

I'm wanting to use the 103B for the proximity sensing; the auto unlocking when I get near, the auto locking when I leave, etc. I spoke w/Jay and he's sending me some sort of board that can reverse the current from the 103B so I can use it; ISIS uses negative grounds as triggers instead of positive, so I'm having to use it.
Can you post some pics of your Infinity push button, v the Lexus one? I saw your other thread describing what you used/did, but I didn't see any up close pics.
You could use relays to ground the ISIS switches. Use the positive from whatever to trigger a relay to apply a ground.

I'm just going to use the board that ISIS is sending me.

I don't have any close ups, but may be able to take a few this weekend (work has been crazy). Let me know what you want a picture of (installed look, rear connectors, mounting hole, etc.)
If you do a google images search you should be able to find out what the button looks like. Here's a good example:

Any pics you can give would be great, but especially of the mounting hole and the installed look of it. I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for in terms of 'look' so I'm weighing my options.

Here's the back of the dash:

Here's the view from the front:

A close-up of the hole. I put white paper behind it to make it easier to see:

Here's the side profile of the button:

There are 2 catches on the side. If you release them, then the bezel slides off the main switch:

I put blue tape on the dash, then traced around the bezel for my cut lines.

Hope this helps.....Eric

Wow that helps a ton! Thanks for all the pics. I like the look of that button too; I'll have to get one and see what would be involved in making one fit in my dash; Mustangs have a pretty big ignition switch hole so I may need to weld it up first.
