During the cruise for the recent RTTC2 event in So. Cal Spectre Performance hosted a lunch and has several cars on they chassis dyno. After lunch had wrapped up I was eyeing a block-off plate that is used on 1st-gen Camaros for putting an air filter in the front-right corner of the engine bay. I have wanted to enclose the filter on the Camaro to keep the hot engine air away from the air filter. Before I knew it, the crew at Spectre was fitting up the plate, which required a bunch of cutting due to the wider radiator, intercooler pump, etc.

I've wanted for quite a while to fit a proper intake tube and mounting system. Part of what held me back was that due to the very tight confines special angle tubes would be needed, or the cut-and-splice method. The guys at Spectre tackled that part as well, and I learned a hard-earned lesson along the way. When they were done, this is what they whipped up in just a few hours.

My lesson for the day is that Spectre has 4" elbows in 5* increments, so 45*, 40*, 35*, and 30*, in stock and already polished. Had I known this, I would have tackled this job long ago. Off-the-shelf Spectre parts would have done it.

Since the Camaro has an OEM feel, the polish needed to go. After Primo at JCG welded up one of the tube joints, some filing, sanding, filling, and painting, here's what Spectre's parts ended up looking like.

Thank you to the gang at Spectre for tackling this project while hosting the RTTC2 event! You guys are great.

Carl that is bas a$$, I'm looking at LS packages now and one of my beefs is having a filter hanging out and hitting the radiator, this looks like a great clean option, very nice!

Damn that looks so much better now. Very well done.

I was really impressed with Spectre's facility when we hung out at RTTC there.

Thanks guys!

Rick, if it will fit in mine, then your's would be easy. On mine the throttle body is farther forward due to the supercharger, the jackshaft is really close (but fine), and the radiator hoses are right in the tube pathway. Throw in a big-a$$ Ligenfelter MAF, and things get real tight.

There's another way I'd like to do it but it's a big project that would require lots of fiberglass work/molds/bucking.

Looks great Carl!

I did a new intake with thier stuff as well and they helped me wire in a new LS7 style blade MAF.. Spectre is great to work with and thier selection of 4" tubing makes building an intake way easier.

Like the black :)

This is good to know. I need a 4" elbow for MotiV8r soon.

Carl,

I fabbed a very similar system about 1-1/2 years ago. I modded/removed a piece of the front of the inner fender and made a duct to the radiator support to turn it into a CAI. I'm not running a front bumper so it would have to be slightly different in your case. You could make a hole in the piece I removed and attach a 3 or 4 inch hose to it with a duct under the front fender.

This last pic is pretty dark but it shows what you see when you look up the duct.

I wish I could tell you, but I don't know! I'll try and measure them tomorrow.

That intake looks great. The black definitely looks much better than the chrome for your vehicle Carl...Spectre seems to be a great company to deal with.
