View Full Version : Crimping tool for Delphi Pack-Con II and Metripack 280 BUS BAR terminals?

Can anyone enlighten me as to a crimping tool or tools designed for, or at least reasonably applicable for, the bus-bar type Metripack 280 (as used in the small-family modular Delphi fuse/relay blocks e.g. P/N 12146815) and Pack-Con 2 (as in the traditional four-ATO-fuse P/N 12004943 fuse block)?

My modest selection of open-barrel crimping tools (plier and ratchet type) either just won't fit or require twisting/bending/savaging the bus bar to get them on the terminal. Since it looks like I'm going to be doing numbers of these things for the foreseeable future I'm either going to have to buy or make some tooling to do them properly.

Thanks.

I have something very similar and it works great for typical open-barrel connectors but since it comes in from the side and is rather bulky (and since the conductor-crimp and insulation-crimp on the bus-bar terminals are separated by the bar) they can't really get in between the adjacent terminals on the bar. The only way to do it is to use the uninsulated-crimp dies and try to twist each adjacent connector on the bus-bar out of the way.

I'd think the 'proper' tool for the bus-bar connectors would be something that would hook over the connector from the bottom, like the Harbor Freight hydraulic swaging tool but a lot smaller. I can picture a set of dies that'd adapt one of the RG6 coax termination tools but it'd be a fair bit of work to lay them out and have them machined.

There's got to be a better way. What am I missing here?

Delphi likely has a .pdf of the tool you are looking for, but it may take a bit of homework searching their site to find it.

These guys have been helpful to me in the past on finding tools and terminals. http://www.pcsconnectors.com/

So I ran into this the other day. When trying to do the bus bar and crimp the terminals in the middle of the bar, it's basically impossible with any standard Delphi crimpers. Did this ever get solved on what tool can do it?
