After many different tires and test fits the local tire store has helped me find the right tire
and I am going to buy them tomorrow. I was wondering should I give him a tip $$ for the help??

I believe I would. Not everybody would go that far to see you get exactly what you wanted. imo

I would toss him a 12-pack of something nice.

I would. Great service is tough to find and this way you will have a "go to" for tires from now on.

I always do, but I mention I will take care of them, if they take care of my wheels.

A $20 put a smile on the guys at Discount, 2 guys teamed up to swap out my tires that I returned, and remounted/balance the new ones. I asked them to be careful with the new billet wheels, and they were very careful, not a single scratch, knick, nothing.

They were pretty cool, just before I was leaving they had a lull in customers, so they came around my pickup looking at their work, we were talking about my project, and they wanted to see it roll in there when it was ready to be shown.
Car guys take care of each other, and the cost of beer has gone up...

If a shop has been helpfull i'd drop in around 11 am with a few pizzas in hand. Because everyone loves a free lunch.

always TIP, great service deserves great respect from those receiving the service, especially this day and age were even the checkout girl in a target is even to busy checking her text messages to give a crap about doing her job with a slight bit of decorum, a thank you, a firm hand shake, and a 20 dollar bill is always a way to assure good service and help the next time

Almost 10 years as a tech, and I started out as a wheel and tire guy, and I never got tips. It would have made my day if I did.

I did used to get tips working in the parts side of things oddly enough.

A tip is nice but you just pull it out of your pocket. Taking time to bring pizza is going the extra step. That is always appreciated.

Definitely tip for good service.. I do it all the time with the Machine shop and other services when they are good.. I have been tipped also on jobs that I have done for people, and it get the customers remembered for sure. I had one guy tip me 750 dollars on a bunch of work done to a 70 Elcamino, and it was only a 2250 dollar job, he got the red carpet treatment after that. LOL

most places like ntb the techs get a very very small comission. $5 goes a very long way for my guys. I will remember that and most likely help you even more the next time you come in.

Yeah even if you gotta tuck it under wipers, or come back after work.
I work for Pep Boys and we HAVE to give tips to store to put in till, no having it ran through our check or nothing. THEY want to steal a tip even if its illegal in Indiana to confiscate tips.
Trust me in this, more than once I got tips at several employers and it may be good karma of God giving me a hand like if I didnt have lunch money or gas . or even soda money.
and where I work they will even steal by not paying you for certain types of work. Heck at Firestone EVERY labor op had time on it even if they didnt charge customer.
