We are painting a shop truck for our neighbor Current Performance Wiring. It will be powered by a 2004 GTO LS1 with an automatic. Front suspension is TRZ control arms with leaf springs and Caltracs in the rear. Front tires are 255/40/18 and the rear 295/35/18. We modified the rear bed and did away with the step in the rear. After we started the project we found out there is now a steel kit available. The original bed had some rust around the wheel wells so we used the top part from the right side on the bottom of the left side of the new bed.

When I sanded the bed I found a few surprises that were filled with bondo.

Brian welded the holes than I did the bodywork. The bed is almost ready for primer.

I'm in for this. Did you buy a step shaver kit or make your own?

rusty428cj
07-13-2011, 12:07 PM
We made our own from the original rusted out bed. Used part of the rear of the left bed on the bottom of the right side of the bed. The owner looked for a metal step shaver kit but could not find one

Suicidedoors.com has metal shaver but they are $$$$. I have the same bed and want to shave mine. I may end up getting the cheaper FG versions though.

He bought some and the problem is they are not fiberglass they are plastic and did not fit. At the time he looked for metal or fiberglass and bought what he thought was fiberglass.

Mmmmm sexy.... did you have an issue getting that paint?

GM is not offering Corvettes in Cyber Grey or Crystal Red Metallic because they can't get a component of that paint for 2012 because of the damage to the plant in Japan from that tsunami.

It is amazing how that color works with the aftermarket lighting. That truck is just screaming for a side exit exhaust, add a front splitter and it would be near perfect....... maybe a VFN Sunoco hood. Good thing he lives in Florida or he'd be pissed to see a copy of his truck pass by...... My next project fo sho! Love it!
