Looking for any suggestions and pics for wheels on my monte. I would like to run atleast 17's all the way around. I want to stick the widest tires in back, and in front. I probably going to do some frame rail modifications to stuff a larger tire into my wheel wells. I'm on a tigh budget so I was looking into used wheels off stock gm or other cars that might fit and look good. Examples of some that might work, but im not sure how they would look or fit would be corvette wheels, new camaro wheels, 94 and up camaro or trans am wheels. Any suggestions, sizing, back spacing info, tire sizes and especially pics would be nice. I did find individual 2000-04 vette wheels that are refurbished on ebay for $104 ea. The seller only list and shows 1 wheel at a time and sold seperately. I could probably email the company ans see if they would sell me 4. Hoping to snap some pics of my monte Saturday to show you guys, and I feel that wheels will be a big part of the start to my project. Thanks for your help!!!

Before you invest in wheels and tires you may want to figure out what your plans are for brakes and suspension first because that could have a dramatic affect on the wheel backspacing you'll need.

You can fit Vette wheels or 4th gen Camaro wheels on, but that will require wheel adaptors.
That will run you an extra $100-$200. I would rather put the $$ from adapters into the wheels, and
not have to worry about things getting loose.
You can fit 17x9.5" (or 9") wheels on the rear (5.0" backspace) and get a 275/40/17 in there, you may have to roll the
wheel lip if you drop the car 2" or more.
The front can actually fit the same wheel/tire, but the problem is the inner fender tubs will get in the way when you
lower the car. A 17x8, 4.5" bs with a 245/45/17 will fit in there very well, just tucked inside the fenderwell bolts.
If you are going to do the frame notch, you can fit a larger wheel/tire in the back, depending on the notch, you
should be able to get 1" extra in there, but now you are looking for 10.5" wheels or some custom 11"
wheels, which are usually not budget friendly. - just sayin..

If you're on a budget check out SummitRacing Legend 5, they are pretty reasonable ($150 ea)

or MB wheels (also around $150)

If you want to save your wheel money, and get better tires instead; you can get some black soft-8's (around $80)

Saw a CL ad this morning for a set of the steel plain wheels from a 5th gen Camaro for 250 (for all four) - http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/2348314488.html
They ain't pretty and I'm sure they're not all that light, but they are 18" wheels and they're cheap.

mc84zz4- I love those MB wheels. I had the summit catalogue out last night and nothing really caught my eye. but looking at that link those wheels are very nice, the right size, and a great price!!
Yelcamino- I agree with your statement, but unfortunetly I cannot answer those questions for sure. I'm very restricted on budget and Im goin to try to put the best suspension items, brakes, steering, and rear-end I can afford. The reason I dont have a answer is because I will be getting help building my car from a friend that builds roundie- round race cars from scratch. He is a very talented guy with tons of fabrication, suspension, chassis, and car setup skills. So alot depends on how much time he wants to invest in my car. He seems pretty motivated to help me so Im hoping that doesn't change. If he is fully involved in the car build, my car will probably be pretty wicked when its done. Also if he is involved there is alot of different directions I could go with the car. My thinking on wheels is that 17"x9.5" for the rear with a lower profile, and the widest tires that I can stuff under the rear wheel wells, and 17x8's in front with a wide tires will give my good handling, traction, look good. It also allows upgrades in brakes and suspension if my car has to stay pretty much stock in those catergories. Currently I have planned a 10 bolt rearend, afco racing springs, afco shocks, and stock brake components. With my friends connections and skills I hoping to, and could end up with alot more!! We already spoke about alot of neat things, but nothings set in stone yet. My car is supposed to be taken to his shop this sunday. I will try to iron out some details with him then. But am I right in thinking that a 17" wheel is a good size to stuff under the car and could handle a fair amount of suspension and brake upgrades? I currently have 15" amercain racing wheels and thats why I want to upgrade atleast to 17's because that seems to be the size everyone is working with???
