i run a mid mount turbo set and have been thinking about building a set of custom headers for a single turbo and crossover pipe. I was reading not to use ss because it cant handle the heat.. what type of steel should i run, wall thickness? 3/8 or 1/2 flange. i have acess to a complete cnc plasma table and all a real nice pipe bender. any ideas??

Stainless is fine. Just use 321.

stainless is good but hard to weld (need to purge it, etc). More people are going with 16g steel and coating it. Thats what I did. Just don't coat inside (if it flakes off its going into your turbo!).
I've posted pics of my build in the first link below (before paint)
