Car is a 3850 lb 55 Belair set up for pro touring, cruising.Running 27 in rear tires,3.55 gears ,turbo 350 trans with 2200 rpm converter, backed by a Gear Vendors into a 9 in Ford.It turns 2100 rpm at 60mph in OD (the GV is a 20%OD).Thinking of the smaller of Comp Cams Thumper cams.As weight of car has increased with the addition of AC,OD,stero ect it has gotten a little slugish in performance.Just want to wake it up withoud loosing driveability. What would you do?

What are the cam specs of the ZZ4 cam? I would think a cam with good low-mid range power would be best. Depending on the ZZ4 specs, might not be much of an upgrade. Then again there are so many cams out there there might be a good grind available thats worth using. Where is it sluggish- all over or just out of the hole? Sounds like a sweet ride

Now your making me think. Will research the specs of the zz4 cam versus the thumper cam.I would have to say it would be nice to have more mid range.Glad you like the sound of it.Just finished Wilwoods all arround. It runs power rack,QA1s,SPC uca. Thanks for your input

I would put a hot cam in it. The thumper cams are not the greatest of designs. The hot cam, however, is a proven design that would work well in your motor

+1 on the GM hotcam. I put one in my ZZ motor and was very happy with the results. Big power gains all over with plenty of down low grunt. By comparison this was in a 3300lb 71 nova.

Thanks guys on the input about the GM hot cam, just what I was looking for.Did you notice any difference in MPG? I am seeing some guys take a big loss here by changing cams. Thanks again ( I know we don't build these cars for economy)
