Fellas,

I am trying to install the Offy VC's I bought for my dad's Cutlass. It is a fight to the death.

The passenger VC was machined to accept a thread in PCV valve, that was a piece of cake. Clamp on breather installed on the drivers side. When it came time to reinstall the power steering pump, it isn't even close to clearing. The rear bracket could easily be modified to work with a little bit of steel plate and some welding. The front on the other hand... I would need to cut a bit of the front right near one of the mounting bosses. I am tempted to just make the cut and see if the belt has any wobble. My other options seem to be to fab my own bracket or buy Mondello's piece at $500...

So who else wants a bracket to mount a Type II GM PS pump to an Oldsmobile? :P If there is a need, I would consider doing the R&D to make one.

Nick how much does your dad want to keep it stock?

Not necessarily Neil. What do you have in mind? Also, we did mod the front bracket to clear. He is shipping the rear to me and I will make the necessary mods. If it doesn't work out in the long run, we will be looking for the next fix. Give me whatever ideas ya got.

Thanks!

I would say switch to a later model set up with newer power steering pump. Do you have a pic of his pulley set up?

Might want to check with Alan Grove Products to see if they have a solution.

I don't see anything on there for Oldsmobiles.

Neil,

That was my thought. What I am unsure is interchangeability with Olds drive setups. What other years could be used as donors?

Olds are their own set ups. But there are a bunch of different ones. Olds was pretty goofy on them. I might actually have a older Olds PS pump without the O rings on the hoses but later than that PS Pump you have. I should also have an upper altenator mount. But you would need the proper pullies which is why I asked. if he has 3 groove crank and water pump pullies it would be ok.

Neil,

I am already back in PA. I will have my Dad take some pics and email them to me. Stay tuned!

How about a true serpentine belt system for Olds engines?

Bill Trovato.......BTR Performance 585-303-7560. He's located in Rochester, NY. He rebuilt my engine (and recently fabricated a bracket for me) and I highly recommend him. Very honest & knowledgeable guy. BTRPERFORMANCE.COM.

Yes indeed you need to go with a later model P/S setup like I did on my 67. I pulled one off a 72 Cutlass. Bought a rebuilt pump from Napa. Make sure if you get one off a donor motor get the donut type bolt spacers that go between the brackets and the block other wise you will have alignment issues. But it's an easy swap. The lines will bolt right up to the box. I used a non-A/C alternator bracket like you already have. I just went out to the shop and took these pictures for you, it's really easy.
