Well i am wondering if there is any way that i can flip these back around the way my other car is. The upper bracket that holds in the shock just remove it and if so where do i get the correct lower bracket for the axle.

Looks like a worn out air shock with no air in it. Whatever it is, it's junk throw it away.

That looks like the bell broke off the top of the shock and slid down over the body. Can you move it freely? Either way, they should be replaced.

you would replace your traction bars for a lower shock plate.
a stock one.

Thanks for the pic that will help. And i already talked to my wife about buying more parts for it she told me she wants it pretty first so paint and body first. But after that she said i could do what ever i wanted. Its great being married to someone who understands an obsession like mine.

yea plan on it just cant believe i drove it home 70miles that way. I am now trying to figure out which way to go with it i know here in the next month or so i will be getting hotchkis tvs which will need plates for multi leaf i believe. Please correct me if i wrong but will also be buying there shocks also. With me having mono leafs now, will there shocks bolt up to the configuration i have set up on there now i would hate to swap out the plates with new ones and just have to another set down the road. I am on a budget being 24 with a wife in school and kid allways needing something.

MattDIROCZ,

That setup looks scary! We’re glad you made it home. Thanks for considering our TVS kit for your Camaro.

When changing from the mono-leaf springs to multi-leaf rear springs you need to address the leaf spring perches on the axle. You can cut the perches off your housing and install new ones or you can replace your leaf springs with a set that doesn’t have the centering pin (or center bolt) sticking up on the top of the spring.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Hotchkis leaf springs don’t have the pin sticking up so they can be used in multi-leaf and mono-leaf rear axle housings. The bolt and nut protrude out of the bottom of the spring so the lower shock plate will keep the rear housing from sliding forward and backwards on the spring.

To deal with the lower shock location you should change to multi-leaf lower spring/shock plates. They allow you to use standard height shocks without an extension and they are stronger than mono-leaf plates. There will be a gap between the spring perch and lower shock plate. Don’t leave this as an air gap, install some spacers to take up the gap or you’ll bend the plate and run the risk of bending/breaking the bolts.
