I have been approached by the good people at Extreme Speed Track Events with the idea of a "Time Attack" series similar to that of those running it for the Honda S2000.
The idea would be to break down into different classes and see who had the quickest lap times. This could be done over a period of several events, or for starters, perhaps a one day or one weekend combination.
Classes would be grouped, based on some combination of vehicle modifications, or if turn out is limited, we could base it on driver skill level and combine groups of vehicle types. For example late model Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, and vintage Pro-Touring.
I know most American Muscle folks like to run the more open, higher speed venues rather than a tight track layout. So, although we may be rushing it, perhaps we could put it together for the June 11th and 12th dates at "Big Willow".
If enough interest is shown, I might even be able to get a group discount full weekend rate, that could possibly include timing, T-Shirts, a BBQ and even a small car show.
Please post up your thoughts, and if you think you could attend, and what it would take to get some more American Iron out there.
Keep in mind that Extreme Speed Events are probably the best venue to get all those Beginners out there. It is a very casual group, with self-tech, lots of Instruction for those who want / need it, and at a discount on top of it all.
This is the time to get out there and try it, especially on the Big Track that suits most of our cars, and in an event with a nice mix of various American V-8 machines and like minded enthusiasts.

Sounds like a great idea. Big Willow is a bit too south for me but if you get something going at Buttonwillow I'm in.

I just went and looked at the schedule. ExtremeSpeed has Buttonwillow on the list of events for July 9th and 10th.

This is all flexible as to when, where and all of that. The idea is not to have some hard core stressful series, but more to focus on getting something other than imports to come out and play at the track.

It's not easy getting a group of pt cars together for a track day at any one time unless it includes sponsors, prizes, auto cross, and speed stop. I think the most cars I ever got together at any one time was close to 8 with about 4 others that showed without cars. IIRC it was a Speed Ventures event at Buttonwillow. We were lucky enough to have Hot Rod Magazine show up and we got in the magazine. Reason I like to use Buttonwillow for get togethers is that it is in between North and South Cal.

I'm always down for a big gathering at a road course and have already put a July 30th Speed Ventures event on my calendar and posted it on this site but it's not in stone.

Good luck and you can count me in if you can get enough interest.

EDIT: I just got an e-mail from Dave at NCRC. Looks like they will be at Buttonwillow July 10th starting a new time trial series.

I'd be down of course!

I really do need to either bite the bullet and buy the LS3 I daydream about or get myself a real roadrace pan for my current SBC though.

Awesome. This will give me a new deadline to finish the next round of minor upgrades on my car.

I'm sure one of my Camaro's will be running good by then

That would be fun, but with the 341 Challenge the weekend after, its not gonna happen for me.

I would be interested. Should give me enough time to fix the small problems in the Nova.

you can do musclecar time attack already just sign up at redlinetimeattack.com. Im going to run in the enthusiast class in october at fontana raceway against other RWD cars. lol the RWD class is no joke though, look at the contenders, paul walker with his rediculous M3.

Yeah, I was trying to line up something with the ExtremeSpeed track events people.

I agree... there are some tough customers out there. There are quite a few M3's and some really dialed-in and very well driven S2000's out there.

Anyone going this Sunday on the 15th to run the Streets CCW?

Sounds like fun! See you there. From the "other" forum, there is a late model Mustang going who would make for a fun mix of American Iron in our run group.
