I've searched for opinions on the Summit brand aluminum radiator but to no avail. ANYone use a Summit brand aluminum radiator?

I need to replace my stock radiator, copper 4 row. With broken fins and such, a flex-a-lite 16" unshrouded fan, it keeps my 70' 400 sbc bored .060 over w/ 12:1 comp. @ around 190 degrees, reaching up to 205 uphill and idling.

I'm thinking an aluminum radiator from Summit and a Mark VIII fan will help me get my temp at a CONSISTENT 180. But why does it seem everyone avoids those radiators???

I can't afford over $200 and the Summit ones are looking mighty cheap yet promising...

I am looking at the Summit radiator too. I read a "how-to" article in a magazine about it but don't remember the mag. Because the Summit radiator is not car specific you have to fab some mounts/brackets but it shouldn't be too hard. I would be interested in some opinions on this too. Any Summit brand parts I have ever bought have been good quality.

It's the same as a "car specific type." Just got to figure out how to mount it. I use them all the time. Summit, Jegs, Speedway etc. IMO, they're all the same. Dual 1" core aluminum radiators.

I have a Summit universal aluminum rad in my '71 Nova.It took a bit of work to get it in. I had to do a "pie-cut" on the lower left corner to clear the frame and also had to cut off and re-weld the lower outlet. It was originally welded on at some funky angle and was causing problems with the lower rad hose and my fabbed alt. bracket. Totall cost at the welding shop was $60.00 (Canadian). I probably could have avoided having to make the mods by buying a slightly smaller rad, but this still gave me an aluminum rad for half the price of anything I could buy locally.

Why don't you just try the Mark8 fan and shroud ? I'm amazed you can stay at 205 with no shroud..Or just put a shroud on it.....

I live in San Francisco, it doesn't get hot here that much. But yeah, the Mark VIII is definitely something I'm gonna try out. It looks so beefy. I just wanted to know how the Summit radiators were seeing how mine looks crappy and I don't want to spend a ot of time trying to straighten all those fins.

Blue70, What size summit rad. are you using? Also what temp. stat are you running? I have a 72 nova with a 402 BBC and I'm looking to run the same setup. Thanks for any help you can provide. Heres my ride.

I run a cheap AFCO Universal 1" 2 row radiator and im sure it is very similar to the Summit Universal radiator. I got mine for $160 and my car never gets warm with the Mark VIII fan. You will be happy. Just make your own brackets and you will be all set.
