Anyone else seen this in person?

Much like the 2010 Camaro I hated it when I saw pictures, just thinking it was hideous. However, I was at the 2012 Dallas Auto Show yesterday and on display---I gotta say that it is unbelievable in person. The thing is like 2 feet tall and 10 feet wide! ( I'm exaggerate, but not much)

I am really going to be watching this one to see how close the keep the actual model to the concept. If the reality is as close to the concept as the Camaro was, they are going to sell a ton of these things.

Didn't see it in person, but from these pics, the top view looks awesome, back/quarter view looks good (tail end looks off), and front/quarter view looks a little funny too.

I like the shape of the canopy, but I doubt the center post in the rear window will make production. Looks like the same car they showed in Transformers 2 as "Sideswipe". (yes my nerd hat is bolted on)

Soften all those lines and scoops I can see the C7 under there.

Is that a GM concept?
I saw a "kit" corvette with a similar rear on ebay a week ago.

It looks like all generations from the C2 to the C6 were put in a blender and this is what came out.

I'm not sure I like it, but at the same time, I'm not sure I don't.

isn't that one of the cars from the Transformers movie a couple of years ago?

Yes, this is a GM concept car and yes it was in Transformers 2.

There are many things I like about it but a lot I'm not sure of. I'd need to see it in person to get a better grasp on the car.

I really hated the scoops on the front fenders, but after getting a really good walk-around view of the car I realized just how much sense the front fender scoops made with the rear quarters.

Taken in pieces, it doesn't look good. But taken as a whole vehicle it is unbelievable.

it's got Lambo doors? Lambos don't even have Lambo doors any more..

I like it, and I would love to see the production version, with just a touch less George Jetson design.
But then again, as a concept car, it is supposed to push the envelope..

^^ The new Lambo (Aventador) has Lambo doors... lol

I really dig it because it's OBVIOUSLY a Corvette. They kept enough styling cues while adding some new ones.

We all know how this game is played, too. This prototype will be watered down until it looks more like a normal car. A lot of the crazy stuff will go away or get softened. What they'll end up offering will still be pretty cool, but won't be this avant garde.

If they want/need to redesign the Corvette, this is how they need to do it. Make it fresh and new, make sure it performs, but make sure it cannot be confused with any other car on the road. I think they've done it. If it backs up the looks with some cooks, they'll have a(nother) legend on their hands. I hope the split window makes the cut...

Seeing that car in person (on display next to the Transformers Bumblebee) really sucks you in. I liked it...

Looks like a modern version of a Greenwood L88 Corvette.

GM has explicitly stated that this thing has no chance of production. It was just designed to celebrate GM's Centennial or something along those lines.

I hate it, but I haven't seen it in person... everyone I know who has seen it in person says it's beautiful. :dunno:

Thats some good news to hear from Detroit.

I don't care for any of the retro cars currently out.

Derek, you didn't make it over to the GM truck at Car Craft last summer?? you must have been living at the autocross track.. :)

I for one am glad it won't see production. After having grown up with my Dad's Vettes I think that thing doesn't do the name proper. It looks like something from a low-buck kid's movie. What's with the TV Batmobile front end grafted into the back??

The front view , hood , canopy, and side view are beautiful.
The rear needs some visible , nostalgia inspired taillight lenses ..

The side profile, top shot, and roofline look great. But I hate the front and rear ends. Not to mention, Corvette's have round tail lights. I see a little '63 influence on the tail end, but they lost me with the scoops.

Yes. Why must it look like it's grinning at me with an old S-10 grill while simultaneously staring at the ceiling? Love the rest of the car though.

this concept does have two round tail lights on each side...you can see them when you are looking at the vehicle from the rear. The exhuast ports on the concept I saw in person were slits (like the first pic) not round like the ones below.

Half-round lights behind expanded metal that you can only see when they are on, while inside an opening that looks like a long-billed goose's head don't count. The slotted exhaust is a far better idea than the round ones though.

Yes I was. :) I spent the whole weekend either autocrossing or hanging out with friends from the Chevelle club.

Ugly as it gets....not even worth elaborating on. The front and rear remind me of that retractable second mouth on the alien in all the Alien movies...terrible.

Have you seen it in person? I understand how you feel--I hated the pictures I saw as well, and I understand that you have an eye for car design...but I think that if you saw it in person and saw it as a car not a profile you might have a better opinion of it.

I can appreciate a bold design and something outside the box, I shoot for that whenever possible. However, seeing that car in person won't change my mind. It looks like George Barris and James Cameron got together to create a "movie prop" and that's essentially what it is. I have no idea where it was designed (GM or external) but it looks like some Lambo designer defected and decided that a Vette should look less like a Vette and more like a Lambo. The issues I have with the styling are so fundamental (mostly those awkward scoops, Barris-like exhaust and the oddly proportioned rear window divider) that I'd just start over again. It just doesn't say Corvette to me, at all. I hate to be so blunt about it but it really doesn't have any redeeming qualities.

I don't see the Lambo other than the doors but I do see the exagerated Barris like lines.

However it does remind me of the 5th Gen Camaro as it has elements from multiple generations with no real flow. The hood and grill have some 78-79 C3, grill also has a bit of a C1 look to it, fender arches of the C3 Mako sharkish, 63 Split window, all hung the overall lines of the Aerovette concept of the 70s.
