I know we have a ton of posts on bolting the LS1 brakes up, but I see no one using the e-brake.

I bolted mine up as they were on the LS1 cars, so the e-brake cable wraps the axle and comes forward. I didn't think to mock this up first, and I realize they're still too long.

Anyone though of a way to make the STOCK cables work? I'm really set on getting the full stock LS1 brakes on this car without making any modifications to the car and as little as possible to the brake set.

I'm thinking I could slide the cables through the original holes on the frame but they would leave a lot of slack above the axle and around the gas tank, I don't want the cables to rattle around up there (don't want to here banging and slapping from the underside of the car during hard cornering).

I am fairly certain you could make this work with a Lokar cable from the e-brake pedal. You would probably need the plate from the bottom of the 4th gen car where the two rear cables connect.

I used the 4th gen lever and had to swap sides to make the cables pull forward.

I was looking into the Lokar cables. That's a good idea, I'm keeping that as an option. I actually want their cable gas pedal, also.

From what I can tell, if I can lengthen the threaded rod on the pedal to cable portion of the e-brake system, the setup I'm trying to make work, will work. I'll update this next week once I get working on that.

EDIT: Do you have a picture of that plate on the 4th gens?

Here is a pic of the plate. Might not be all that useful if you are not using the 4th gen e-brake lever but maybe it will give you some ideas.

Hmm... I didn't think of that.

I'm using the stock setup from the 1st gen camaro to the cables that come off the backing plates on the axle. I didn't realize the 4th gens had a setup like that. My method may not work, then.

I did it on my 69 Camaro, and it's not difficult at all. I shortened and used LS1 cables, the stock drum brake e-cable routing bracket and the stock Camaro frame rail bracket. Looks like it grew there. Full writep here, with photos: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=161383

You could shorten the LS1 cables at the end going toward the front of the car. On mine, I cut the barrel-cable stop at the front end, pulled the cable portion out, unscrewed the fitting that goes around the black cable shielding (this piece sort of threads on and goes counterclockwise so turn right to loosen and left to tighten). I then mocked up the line, determined what length the actual line portion needed to be and cut it to length. After that I cut the shielding to the length needed to fit the brackets I had setup to retain it, screwed the little end piece back on (after stripping some of the black rubber back to reveal the inner shielding core), and ran the line back through the shielding.

Something that did give me trouble for a bit was finding a way to create a cable stop that would fit in the little c-bracket that attaches the rear e-brake cable to the front e-brake cable. I ended up buying a cheap swedge tool and some 1/8 inch swedges and crimped them to the cable (stripped of the plastic coating of course) to create a cable stop. Ended up working great.

Man, I need to get this part. I plan on using the factory parking brake cables on a Chevelle and I was thinking I was going to have to make this bracket. That would work perfectly... it's going to be a pain in the ass finding one of these in a junkyard around me though. They don't have any 4th Gen F bodies it seems.
