Your best bet to get them cheap is to find a local fab/welding shop and see if they will sell you their short pieces. This is what I have been doing and I have saved a ton of money

You can buy 4x8 sheets of 5052 in various thicknesses at Dillsburg Aeroplane Works in Pennsylvania. Probably no more than 3 hours from LI.

There are a couple places online that sell sheets/pieces of metal. Some will even custom cut pieces to size (for a fee). Just search for "Sheet alluminum" on Google.

Dom, there is a place right by my house that sells metals, left overs, nuts and bolts and things you didn't even know exsisted. If you come up short, let me know and I can get them and ship them to you.

Otherwise try mcmaster. The guys I'm talking about are dirt cheap though. 2" thick aluminum block for $2. Great for making parts by hand. 1" thick remnants great from brackets. Sheets. Grate (intercooler cover) you name it.

I own a sheet metal fab. shop. If you want to PM the sizes & thickness you need, I can take care of you.

If you wanna take a quick drive down the NJ Turnpike you can check out Lawrence Engineering. they are a circle track shop in Trenton, NJ. They make bodies and frames for dirt oval cars so they always have plenty of sheet aluminum in a variety of colors in stock.
