I have splashed a few pics of my reincarnated JustBringIt Street Racer around with the new 18" / 17" Forgeline Drag Wheels on it. The fronts are 17 X 4 skinnys and the rears are 18 X 12 with 345 / 35 / 18 M and H Racemaster Drag Radials.
My Street Racer has been around since 1996 and is a reliable low 9 second quarter mile car, 6.0 1/8th mile and has short times in the low 1.30s on street slicks. This 18"/ 17" wheel and tire set up is the same as we will run on our Project Unfair for the targeted 8.99 goal. We have to run 18s on Unfair to clear the monster 14.25" W4A Wilwood rear brakes. So I wanted to test these tires on my known performer to see how they work.
Long story short I took JBI out to the "little track" to play a bit. First pass I ran on motor and went 1.50 short time which is dead on par for the 100s of 10.70s I have run over the years on motor. With 300HP NOS and leaving on all 300HP it runs 6.0 to 6 teens in the 1/8th (which is low 9s in the 1/4), short times on those passes are in the 1.29 to 1.32 range, on slicks. Playing it a little safe and trying to "sneak up on the tire" I set the progressive for 50% initial and 2 seconds delays. Meaning I left on 150HP and ramped up to 300HP over the first 2 seconds of the run. So at 100 feet I was at full power. Ready for almost anything at lunch I was shocked. It hooked hard, actually harder then I expected which tells me I need to slow down the front end rebound, and it went a 1.35 60 foot. I was a little concerned about the short shut down area and the lifted at 600 feet and rolled through a 6.20 at only 100MPH. BTW with my new Wilwood 12.2 (6) piston front and 12.2 (4) piston rear that stopping concern was totally unfounded. New brakes are AWESOME!
The track got really crowded quickly after that with rice burner street cars and the track was ruined in no time. So I did not get a chance at a full boogie run on 100%, but what I know for sure is these tires easily have 1.30 short times in them which is more then enough for us to muscle the rest of the track with Unfair's monster power and see our 8.99 gauntlet fall! And the tire was the most stable down the track I have ever felt. And these tires drive SO MUCH better on the street then the polyester 15" street drag tires I have run for years. So while these tires are NOT autocross or road coarse tires, they are viable drag tire options for Pro Touring cars.
The wheels and tire combo look incredible. This was the first time out for he car at this track and the car (and tires / wheels) were the talk of the track.
I thought this would be interesting information for Pro Touring guys with big horsepower and big brakes that want to drag race.
