Well, here it is... Another Camaro!???!!!

It started out as a nice cruiser, but after a spun rod bearing I decided to take it apart, and you know what that leads to!!!

It looked decent from 10 feet, but when I pulled up the carpet to fix a broken subframe nut, I realized it was gonna be a bigger job than I thought!

As long as it was this far apart, I figured it was best to update it as best as I could. I REALLY wanted to go the route of a DSE subframe and minitubs, but that just isn't in the budget. Instead, I got Global West upper control arms and Del-a-Lum bushings for the lower.

Any thoughts??

I'm a bit old-school. I'm still a fan of the giant iron (and a bit of aluminum) lump of a big block, I don't quite know why. I completely understand the advantages of the LS series, which I seriously considered. I spent a few years assembling several bits for a 496, and I'm sooo looking forward to roasting the hides down the block!!!

looks like a nice car to start with. Where you located?

Thanks!! It was decent looking, but it had some pretty significant rot underneath.

I'm in northwest suburban Chicago. Winter is on its way out, i've been able to get back to work on it a little bit lately. Unfortunately, snow is forecasted with cold for the next several days.... I need to get a heater in my garage!!

I was about to make a snide comment about 'another camaro', but it was refreshing to see chrome trim and rally wheels. I like it!
and nothing wrong w/ a BBC. not everything needs a LS.

Sweet car. Wow, that's nearly a twin of the Better Off Dead Camaro.

Thanks Again!!

That's what I started with, it's currently being (slowly) reassembled. I want to keep the car looking mostly stock, but with some modern go-fast goodies.

One of my current dilemmas is what to do about wheels / tires. Keith, like you I like the classic look of rally wheels, but finding any decent tires is a problem.

... Keith, like you I like the classic look of rally wheels, but finding any decent tires is a problem.
the last time I built a car was in the late '80's(!)early '90's, I ran rally's on my nova w/ 225/60 gatorbacks. they were very common because that's what the 5.0 mustangs came with.
back then the only thing w/ 16 or 17" wheels was the corvette and IROC camaros.

After getting the floor tacked in place, I got tired of laying underneath the car eating weld spatter and burning holes in my shirts.

So I built a rotisserie.

This makes welding so much easier!! I seam welded just about all the seams I could around the floor and rocker pannel area.

When I was finally finished, everything was seam sealed, and I sprayed the entire bottom with spray-on bedliner.

The subframe is in!!

I cleaned it up and gave it a coating of POR15 and Chassis Black. DSE aluminum subframe bushings are holding it to the body.

I Recently got the engine back from the builder, 496ci of BBC FUN! I've got it mocked up here in the subframe, trial fitting the drivetrain and headers to steering box clearance. Everything fits!!

Just found this thread. My '67 has the same color scheme as yours.

If you like the old school look, you can get the rally wheels in a 17" or 18", I've seen them at summitracing.com. Lot's more tire options then.

Awesome, love the stock look. Floor looks like it turned out great. FYI, Firestone Tire centers still carry a large selection of 15" tires.
