Well I am about to venture into the Ford world! I got my first Pro-Tour Mustang... The car just arrived from Tennessee last night.. I have been wanting to do one of these for a long time now & have been given the opportunity by Nick D & his dad to re-do the Mustang.. This will be Nick's first high school car.. He is only 16 yrs old right now & his dad wants his first car to be something he will always remember..

Here is the laundry list..
DSE front suspension.. buying existing components to build a chassis around it
DSE Quadra-link rear suspension
2011 Coyote Cobra engine & transmission
American Racing headers with Borla mufflers
Forgeline wheels
Wilwood Brake System
American Auto Wire
Vintage Air
Anvil Carbon Fiber goodies
Ben Hermance Rendering
JCG Custom Components & body Modifications
Tear down begins this week.. & body off to the media blasting..

Guys, it's a clone. He posted that in another thread.

Cris --which Q-link kit do you have? Is it intended for the Mustang or another car that you'll be modifying?

Thanks Dave for answering the question about it being a clone..

I am using a 2nd gen Camaro Quadra-Link that I have to fit it into the car.. I got some cazy idea how I am going to do this..

I am cutting it all out & setting suspension module in place when the car is on the jig.. set the motor in place with transmission.. & design & fabricate around that..

Good! Just asked because a guy came in the shop a couple weeks ago that has an Eleanor clone that he made out of a real Shelby GT500. It was very hard for me to keep my mouth shut about it. Some cars just need to be restored and not modified.

The tear down of the Mustang has shown that we have a very good soild foundation to work with... Last nite sold the motor & transmission.. I got lots more parts to sell off.. I have been getting PM's on the parts.. I will soon have pricing on parts not being used & let you guys know..

Would Nick's dad like to adopt me? I drove a hand me down hippie van when I was sixteen. Well, that did have its own unique advantages (oy!), but is looks like Nick is going to have the coolest car in the high school parking lot.

Nice!!

Where did you get the motor and transmission from? I didn't know they came with all the hoses etc fully dressed? I'm doing a 67 Fastback with a Roushcharged Coyote - they aren't out yet for production, but the goal is when they come out to be one of the first ones...

Good luck with the project! subscribed!

PS - any news on the power steering fix for the motor yet? I see Sean Hyland has a power steering pump for the naturally aspirated coyote motors... seanhylandmotorsports.com if you weren't aware

Cheers

I got a complete pull out drivetrain from Cleveland Pick A Part... I have bought several drivetrains from them in the past for LS Conversions..

Thanks for the info on the power steering.. That was a very helpful tip!

Just got the approval from the owner on the rendering!

We wanted to see the car in two different colors..

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/04/70Mustang1_LOGO2-1.jpg

Red is the color Nick has picked! At first it was going to be flat red with flat black stripes.. but owner took Ben's advise on a bright cinnamon red metallic!

Let's hope that there isn't a Roadrunner being built by a classmate. This going to be a great build. I heard a new 5.0 Mustang the other day with an aftermarket exhaust system and the Coyote is a great sounding engine.

I like the "Coyote" nestled in the "Boss" style stripe. This is going to be an awesome build.

This is a really cool build. And that is definately a killer car for a first car. I like the brighter red in the 2nd rendering.

Bright red for sure!

Another vote for red, but I am partial.

I am also wondering why adopt DSE components? I am not doubting their quality it just seems like a tough way to go. There are a huge number of vendors that make all kinds of parts for Mustangs. For the front there is everything from bolt ons to complete front ends conversions. For the rear there are watts links, torque arm set-up, you name it! Just curious...

Because the owner (DAD) wanted something different other than bolt on.. Plus I get to build a custom chassis around DSE components.. which I have been wanting to do for some time now..

I like the red on the car!

But I think it looks good in yellow also! Establishing ride height.. off to media blasting.. load on jig & start the cutting!

The sail panel area on that car looks a lot different from the renderings. Different year/model? I don't know my fords.

Is the car going to keep the Lites that are in the mock up?

Coupe art used for the rendering of a fastback? That's my guess.

The rendering is indeed a fastback, not a coupe. From the angle I drew it the roof begins to taper towards the center of the car, that exposes more of the top of the quarter moving towards the tail. Check this photo out for reference:

We have been working on it this week.. We will have some new updates soon..

Here is the current stage it sits in minus rocker panels.. We are building custom rocker panels that will serve as the main structure of the side chassis rails..

I really hope this kid treats this car better than 99% of the people I know who got a free car in high school. My guess is that the car doesn't last a year.

TheBandit

WOW. How did this go? "Well it'l be easier if we cut this here" then "I guess we may as well cut that off there" and pretty soon all that was left was a blank canvas.

Looking a the current fixturing, are you going to be able to fit a hood over that 5.0? This is definitely going to be cool.

I know this is an old thread, but it came up in a google images search I did. I recently got my hands on a 1970 mustang fastback project car. It will be my first none 4wd build so I imagine this will be the first of many posts for me. My plan for the mustang is to do a complete reversal of the red sketch. A black mustang with red stripes and red wheels. Any thoughts? Anyone have a picture of a car that fits that description? Thanks
