I have a 69 Pontiac Firebird with 400 Engine and Long Tube headers. The driver side header is basically touching the gear box. I have power steering and all massive amount of heat is transferring into the gear box even with Ceramic Coating on the headers.
I thought about going with a Lee Steering Gear Box but wanted to find out if anyone knows how the size of the stock compares to the Lee?
Or is there another brand of gear box that is smaller to gain a little bit of room between the gear box and header?
I am planning to install Solid engine mounts within the next few weeks hoping to gain a cm or 2.
Thanks
Ray

The Lee 670 box has several smaller dimmensions, which can help with clearance, I remember reading that in the 1st Gen, there is one area that the Lee box requires to dimple one of the pipes, but I am not sure if that was stock SBC or LSx series, versus you running the BOP with long tubes.
It could be that bump-out just on the left side of the PS lines. (?) everywhere else it is slightly more compact.

There are several more side-by-side shots here, sorry no 1st gen pics:
