Hey! Here is my project itīs a Pontiac Firebird T/A from 1970. The drivetrain is a Chevy 454, TH 400 and a 12 bolt rear axle. It had been "customized" with taillights from a newer Firebird, if it had the original rear panel I had kept it. Now when it was destroyed in the rear I decided to build my own version of the rear panel. I looked at the Firebird from 69 and got inspired to use that theme on the rear of my T/A.

I will continue to post pics of this project.

Here is the rear before I cut it off.

Very cool. I want to see what a 79-81 style rear end with the taillights all the way across would look like with your treatment. Recess it and use a tinted red glass and LED's.

Hey! On the question of the suspension it will be an airride system, then I also looking at BMR torque arm in the rear.

It could also be very cool with an 79-81 rear end but I like the fuel cap visible in the center, it looks more like racing.:revto9k:

Yesterday I did some work, I sealed all the weldings on the quarter panels with lead. I dont now what you call it in the U.S.A, you use lead as a filler. Maybe someone can tell me the right word for it, itīs not easy to write in English especially when it is technical words.:help:

I like the gas filler placement too. It is going to look awesome when you get it finished. I have some ideas for my 74 Firebird.

Now I have started with the connection between the fuel cap and the fueltank. I had to make a little hatch so I can connect the hose later in the process. I will tigwelding the aluminum tube to the fuel cap at my job later this week.

Today I have started with inside of the trunk, I grinding it down to bare metal and itīs boring. I did a "mock up" of the rear to get inspired, this is how itīs gonna look.

Lycan,

Pontiac should have made it like this from the factory!

Keep up the good work.

Lycan,

Pontiac should have made it like this from the factory!

Keep up the good work.

I'm no purest, but am usually against most taillight mods as they just look like a mismatch to me (remember the corvette tailights on first gen Camaros?), but this one came out really cool. Great job man...

Hello! Her come a update from Sweden. My project is going on and now itīs a lot of grinding, I have paint the car with epoxiprimer before the filler. The epoxiprimer is a very good protection for the metal against rust and I will spray another layer with it before the surf.

Hello! Now itīs the rear spoiler that I work with, I use Araldite 2015 and glassfiber to fix it.

First I had to get the trunk lid in place and it took a couple of hours.

I have redesigned the spoiler also.

I like it too. Make sure the spoiler is really solid. Any movement till cause cracks later on. Did you use filler or fiberglass. I don't know which one is best to bond plastic/fibre glass to metal?

Lycan

Hello! I hope the spoiler will stay in place, I use an epoxi paste that has very good bonding. To be sure I put some glassfiber in the epoxi to get more strength.

AralditeŪ 2015
Two component epoxy paste adhesive
Key properties
Toughened paste
Ideal for bonding GRP, SMC and dissimilar substrates
Low shrinkage
Gap filling, non sagging up to 10mm thickness
High shear and peel strength

Long time since I post! I`m building a house also and dont have much time in the garage. But somtime Iīm sneaking down and work a little on my projekt, the body is grinded and now have a coat of epoxiprimer.

I ordered airride kit level 2 from ridetech and now is the airbar in the rear in place, next is the airtank and compressors in the trunk to mount.

The rear with the tail lights, gas filler, and spoiler modifications looks great! The spoiler looks taller than stock, is it? Also the flares in front of the rear wheels look like they've been molded in. Are they? Was the top of the rear wheelwell arch also modified?

Lycan
11-03-2011, 12:20 AM
Thanks for the comment! The spoiler is stock height, just trimmed in the middle to get it a more modern and sleek look. Yes the flares are also molded in just like the spoiler, the wheelwell is stock but I will trimming the wheelarch to get more space to the tyres.

Nice work...I'm liking that Ridetech 4 bar set up.......any chance of some more pics closer in on the upper and lower training arms and how they mount to the axle?
Thanks.

That fuel filler door gives me an idea for my next build. Too bad our US plates are so big...that placement would not work so well on this side of the pond.

If i may ask, were did you get that gas filler set up? The ring and door.

Lycan
11-06-2011, 03:39 AM
I promise to get more pics on the airbar installation its just a "mock up" now, you use same attachment as the leafspring for the lower arms. The upper arms attachment is welded on the rear axle, itīs a K-link installation. You can find the installation guide on Ridetechs webbsite.

The fuelcap is from Sparco.

Here is the box with the airtank, compressors, ECU-unit, air pressure sensors and other things.

51024
Now I have an airtank in the trunk.

The place for the two compressors.

Sorry to bother you again about the gas cap but did you get the funnel too or did you customize your own piping.
Thanks
