I see a lot of extreme pro-touring Camaros such as Motiv8r, Unfair and others, that appear to be as well equipped as Big Red. My question is, do the Gottliebs ever bring out Big Red to any track days and if so, how do some of these extreme pro-touring Camaros stack up to Big Red?

I haven't heard much of Big Red since late '09 where it was present at the first OUSCI (though I don't believe it competed.) It won some 0-200-0 challenge around that time too. That's also where the updates end on Big Red's webiste, Bigredcamaro.com.

Anyone out there know what they're up to with Big Red by now?

Comparing Big Red to 99.9% of the cars on here is like apples vs. oranges. I dig BR for what it is, but it is a race car through and through. Most cars in here have a lot more street manners built into them.

The top guys at RTTC would spank big red in all but the speed stop challenge. Big Red was designed to run 200mph, not run to starbucks for a coffee or run through some cones.

Big Red is a tube-chassis race car with a '69 Camaro body.
It is an awesome car and helped to inspire the pro-touring style of car building.

I don't think they have run any events since 2009 .

In addition to the first OUSCI I know they ran the Texas and Mojave Miles in 2009 (204+ at Texas, 200+ at Mojave) and they ran the Mojave Mile in 2010 (200+). There might be some other events... there are always rumors about a return to SSCC but nothing yet.

Big red wasn't designed to run cones. IMO no pro-touring car is.

Mini coopers, Caterhams and miatas are.

the biggest lesson that anyone can learn from Big Red is that you don't have to give it a stupid name that is intentionally misspelled to build an awesome car.
they built a car and gave it a name they saw on a package of gum..

One thing that surprised me about the whole Big R thing that the driver J R Gottlieb (or whatever) was only something like 19 when all those early runs were made.....impressive.....did he bankroll the car????

My car should be done by then. Would really suck to miss this one. Just a heads up, if you are carburated be sure to adjust for elevation.

I see RJ got Big Red to run a 3:37 first day... not sure if he bested that 2nd day. Pretty damn smokin.

Results are still being finalized, but the Spectre blog (http://spectreperformance.com/blog/) shows Big Red at 3:29.994. Smokin fast, good for 5th place in some VERY fast company.
