View Full Version : The OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro - New Look for 2011!!!

In December we reached out to a several prominent artists in the PT community with the hopes of having a contest to design a new look for the OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro and at the end of the day four very talented individuals - Carter Hickman, Ben Hermance, Otis Black, and Nelson Michael - provided renderings for us. Unfortunately time and logistics kept us from running the contest that we had originally envisioned - race day is only six weeks away and we have a ton of work left to do - so we put the decision in the hands of our sponsors.
After a couple of weeks of careful deliberation I'm proud to unveil Carter Hickman's rendering and winning design...

Carter really hit this one out of the park and his rendering is heading to the wrap shop next week to be brought to life!
On behalf of the OneLapCamaro Team - David, Mary, and myself - and our sponsors - OPTIMA Batteries, Hellwig Products, RideTech, Baer Brakes, HRE Wheels, and FM3 Performance Marketing - thank you to everyone involved!

Yeah... That's "just" a rendering... I can't get over how realistic it looks myself - Carter is crazy talented!
We're working on the wrap now. David and Mary took their 68 over this afternoon to let the shop template a first gen and, in an ironic twist, the battery died on the drive home (we ave no luck with alternators). Hopefully this will come to life next week!

Nice job! It looks like there is something on the hood too. Any other views?
Congrats Carter! The rendering looks so fantastic. All of the renderings look really nice actually. You guys make me envious with your skills.

The hood will have the OPTIMA Batteries Power Pack Nation logo on it. No more rendering views but with some luck the real thing will be together in a week or so...

X2... I like the "cleaner" look also. Not trying to take anything away from the other artists. They're all very talented.

The weather has been lousy since the wrap was finished last week but it stopped raining long enough for Mary to snap some pics between joy rides at the Fox Shocks facility yesterday...

Our new Baer 6R brakes arrived yesterday and will be installed in the next couple of days along with the ZR1 hubs that Blake and the guys at SpeedTech tweaked for us. We have the new Triple Adjustable RideTech coil overs installed in the back and the fronts will go on with the brakes. New wheels are on and the new Rick's Stainless tank with Carl's VaporWorx setup is doing it's job perfectly.
Three weeks until the Long Beach Grand Prix and then it's off to South Bend...

I like the new look. Is your car set up on display at Long Beach GP or are they letting PT cars do a track demo?

We've been keeping it kind of quiet (for no particular reason) but... we are going to be the Parade car for the World Challenge Race at Long Beach on the 17th (and again at Mid-Ohio in August)!
I know that it's just a few parade laps but I think that it's one of the coolest opportunities that we've been given in... well... ever.

That's awesome! It's been a dream of mine since I was 10 to run at LBGP. It was the one race my dad and I attended every year. When I was a kid running Karts we almost got to run a partial track race. A couple of years back I was invited to a behind the scenes weekend at LBGP with Cart. To bad they sold out.
If you need any help in the pits, let me know I'd be happy to lend a hand.
I know some race promoters, car owners and marketing guy's who have made it their career promoting open wheel and GT racing. Perhaps this could lead into a demo race with the PT cars at some race events?

That is a really awesome opportunity James! If you need a helping hand or some moral support, I live 10 minutes from the shore. :)
The new wrap looks realy nice, I like it even more on the car than in the rendering.

Thanks Corey and Jon - I'm really excited about Long Beach but it's also our deadline to have everything done and ready to go so it's going to be a stressful couple of weeks. The car will be on display with OPTIMA before the actual race on Sunday and once we're done the car, the trailer, and all of our tools and spares will start the long trek East.

Another One Lap related semi-announcement - we're workong on a possible live streaming video feed during the race that we hope to have on our website (or hosted somewhere) to go along with a more "Marycentric" live blog this year. I've got a couple of options to stream the video and am going to be trying them both out at Del Mar next weekend - if there is anyone who won't be going to Del Mar and would be able to tune in to a test feed for even a few minutes over the weekend of the 1st through 3rd, please shoot me an email at james at onelapcamaro dot com and I'll try to put a schedule together of when we'll be streaming and how to tune in.
Thanks
James

That wrap does a great job of showing off the paint color. Pic's don't do the color justice.

Most of the attention has been re-directed towards the OLC in preparation for it leaving the shop and headed towards So Cal later this week, yesterday the car was being fitted with it's new 14" Baer brakes all-around:

I've offered to make it available to a couple of people who asked to template it but nobody's ever followed through. It's pretty simple to make if you have the inclination.

Reviving an old post. I know that these HRE's arent being run on the One Lap Camaro anymore, since that was 2011, but I was wondering what the wheel and tire size combo was for both the fronts and especially the rear wheels in these pics? I've searched high and low for that info online - searches here on the Pro-Touring forums, on every link to every build on the One Lap Camaro, and even on Facebook! lol The way this combo fits, and how the rears fill up the space in the rear wheel well, looks absolutely perfect! (at least to me!). Are those 19 inch wheels in the back?
Btw, is this my first official post? Long time lurker, currently dusting off a 1968 Camaro that I've owned for quite a while, my first car ever from when I graduated high school back in the day, as a matter of fact! Getting ready to roll up the sleeves, bring her back to life, and do some major work, and at the same time trying to figure out a real eye grabbing stunning look, and to me, wheels and tires are a major part of eye appeal, as well as making your own statement, and making a car "yours". ;) Much thanks in advance for any info on that wheel combo on the One Lap Camaro from back in 2011.

Hey Bill - thanks for the compliments on the car - this was probably one of my favorite looks and times for the car. At that point the wheel combination was:
Front 18x9.0 - offset was +36 with an 8.0" inner and 1" outer
Rear 19x12.0 - offset was -3.9 with a 7.0" inner and a 5.0" outer
Offsets won't help you much in the rear as mine was narrowed 1" per side but they might provide a starting point. Tires were 325/30-19 and 275/35-18.
Cheers
James

Hi James! Much thanks for getting back to me on the info for the wheel combo on that iteration of the One Lap Camaro! I swore that I wasn't going to run 19's in the back, but now this info has me re-thinking that! ;) I do love how you filled up the rear wheel well space, and I want to do something similar on my 1968 Camaro, so whatever wheel and tire combo I end up going with, I'll try to get as close as I can to your total wheel and tire diameter, especially for the rears. Thanks again!

19s can be less obvious than you think - another great looking car with 19s that you probably don't even notice until it's pointed out it is Billy Utley's Nova. Great looking car
