Do the straight up ones put the back face of the LS motor in the same place as the stock SBC, or the front or what?

Most of them are all different. Some move it up and forward, some down & back, some & up & back, etc. There are some adjustable ones with 3 positions- forward-back-nuetral and I recently saw some with a slot that allowed you to slide it front to back as needed. The best advice I can give is to get a kit with crossmember, motor mounts, headers, etc and determine your steering setup- box or R&P, before you buy anything. If its for your monte, I'm not sure if anything specific is made for it yet. I'm sure someone has done one by now. See if you can find what parts were used on similar swaps. Whats your plans for the LS motor??

Yep it is for the Monte, I'm looking at putting an L92 in it. Would like to know where the back of the motor will end up compared to the stock small block chevy location because I will have a manual trans in it & want it close to the location of the shifter I had with the T56 on the LT1. I guess I should have measured the distance from the back of the motor to the motor mount bracket before I sold it.

Scot,

I would shoot for the Holley mounts for the stock location,if they would need to be changed Holley has a variety of these coming out, I think starting with the stock location you could then see if you need to add or remove to get the right distance. Check out the link here http://www.holley.com/12611HKR.asp Also, I think Iam solving my oil pan set up, I ordered this oil pan but it wont get to me until March 24 That is cool though, gives me more time to get the small stuff that I will probably forget lol..;-) Here is the link for the oil pan.

www.nookandtranny.com, they sell the multi position motor mounts (and a whole lot more stuff to do a LS swap). You can also find them on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-Swap-Engine-Mount-Adapter-Plates-Adjustable-1-BK-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588a538964QQitemZ38027 7852516QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

Oh and before I forget: the Hooker mounts also place the LS engine in such a position you don't have to do anything to the trans (x-member) and drive shaft length and you can find the dimensions of most of the available mounts in one of the stickies in the LS1tech.com swap forum.
