I think that's one of the things that makes Troy one of the, if not the best. He's conquered the street rod, and street machine end of this hobby, now he's moving into another dimension. He's showing he has versatility. Alan is doing the same thing. Lots of builders have one way of doing things. It's like their trademark. Alan has shown he can build a top notch street rod, now he has shown he can do the same thing in a street machine. I think if the right customer shows up, he might move into another dimension too. You've got to have the customer that wants that kind of car. First class don't come cheap.....
I think Alan,Troy,Bobby have all conguered the street rod/street machine.I don't thing that either one is easier to build.

i guess it's what you're trying to do with the finished car. Are we going to have a wave of Street Rods that will handle like a Pro Touring Car..Big Horse motors, Brakes, Trick Suspensions etc. After seeing that 34 Ford win the street car shootout, i wouldn't doubt it. A streetable 34 Ford running in the 8's..that's wild. The 38 Chev that won SROY looks like a step in the right direction..maybe even more than a step..he's supposed to have it at the Air Ride Event at Putnam Park Sept. 6th. I am probably going to carry the Cuda up there too..Brent @ Air Ride invited me even though I don't have air ride on my car. I think that's 2 guys that have lost their minds. is anyone on here going up there. Brent puts on a big show. Watching him tear his stuff up is pretty entertaining..he's blown his share of engines etc up in the last year or so. This hobby needs more interacting vendors like him. He's good for this game. i think Detroit Speed is going to have a car there too.

I'll tell you what it was hotter here in new york 100. louisville is not one of my favorite shows and I'll end up going next year when the 32 is finished. If you go to shades i'll see you there

Well 1/2 these pro touring cars are just newer street rods. Most people with have big brakes, big engines, trick suspensions, etc and don't use it.Like a street rod they are just nice investments to enjoy,go to cruise nights and show's.To each is the own.
Bob just wondering how much do you drive your cuda,I know you did the power tour.Just wondering if such a cool is really street driven, you know like to work and other places.

I walk 100 yards to work...I think we have about 1800 miles or so on it..I don't use it daily, but I drive it to shows and stuff. It is staying at Alan's most of the time or I would drive it more..I will be at the Mopar Nats next week It will be driven around up there..We will probably go to the Air Ride Challenge Sept 5 It will run the track at Putnam Park..We will be at Shades the next week after the 5th..driven some there..and next week after that at Muscle Rides deal at Pigeon Forge and run the auto cross there...

not in my book they wouldn't..several guys have been mentioned on here that can't build a car better than my broke back mountain crew I used to have working at my place here in Gainesville..Hype doesn't sway my opinion..There's several people listed that are all hype..No skill whatsoever

I think any real hardcore biker wouldn't touch any of the Discovery bikes except for Johnny chop and Indian Larry and they are both dead. Although the PM guys kid is talented and brings some fresh designs. Bikes are real personal and hard to have mass appeal.
I agree with the OCC deal but they were not chosen to do show because of their talent but rather because of Seniors look. I also have never heard them say they were the best at anything. They are also well known for being nice guys except towards Billy Joel. Yeah, I watch every episode. Hey, they won the bike builder lottery and ran with it.

I never ever waste an opportunity to show a picture of the OCC Christmas Bike. I saw this bike in person and immediately considered using the antlers to gouge my eyes out. That way I wouldn't have to look at it any more.

I must have seen one of Rick's cheap bikes..One I saw didn't impress me one bit..i met Jerry Covington @ Barrett Jackson last year..he's a real nice guy..A friend of mine is one of the owners of Houston's Restaurant Chain..He has a bunch of choppers, as well as exotic cars and a jet turbine bike..He has some Jaffee and Covington bikes. He also has a bike like Exile builds, and 2 or 3 Jessee James Bikes..He's very big on the Covington and Jaffee bikes. He also has a bike by someone I never heard of and it's killer..Wonder who won the big Kahuna at Sturgis? I would have loved to have gone, but I had to be @ Columbus for mopar Nationals...

Bob, I think Roland sands is the name of the performance machine guy, and his bikes are KILLER. They have style but you can actually ride them, I have seen clips of him doing donuts and standing them up.
I would be scared to ride the occ bikes, they look like children built them.

I thought ol Indian Larry was a butcher, God rest his soul..Anyone that would ride a bike all over the country with no rear brake has definitely out to lunch. I watched his antics and the lack of a rear brake..wondering how he lived this long. I don't know the exact percentage but I'll bet 75% of the braking is done with the front wheel..to leave it off is insane..bikes don't stop that good with both wheels braking ...let along leaving off the primary one.

You want to see cool old school check out Hank Young over here in Marietta, Ga. He used to own Joe Smith Automotive..the guys that sold flathead Ford Parts. He had bought the business from Joe Smith probably 12 years ago. He started building a few bikes and like it so much he sold Joe Smith and started building scooters full time a few years ago. His bikes blow Indian Larrys stuff away..He takes a lot of old car parts and incorporates them into his bikes. He won the biker build off on that show one time..

Back to the car builders, Troy is no doubt on top of his game right now. Ruetters (spl) is one shop that I have not seen on this list. I really like his work. I know Greening has been mentioned but I really think he is close to being a Troy or Johnson. His new 32 has some really cool stuff on it.
Bob- The 41 Willys Pickup you mentioned earlier was built by Legens Hot Rod. www.legenshotrod.com (https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/www.legenshotrod.com) A lot of people thought it was going to do well at Detroit but Burman took the prize(which is an awesome car). There are many rumors surounding the Willys truck. In Detroit, a Studebaker beat the Willys for "Best Handbuilt Truck" and they say the Willys was the only handbuilt truck at the show. The truck seems to have been blackballed at the Goodguys shows also. Wierd.

I've seen the Willys Pickup in person and it's a very nice truck. Everyone has their own opinion, so no bashing me for my statement here, but in my opinion they went a bit too far towards the cartoon look. When you stand back and look at the car, the lines don't flow and the proportions just aren't there. Just my 0.02.

I customized this bike. The forks and triple tree are now detacheable. It was my Buell Firebolt, bored/stroked to 1405cc's, custom carbon fiber, & powder coated frame. Eric Buells company puts a nice bike together, though it's a mfg, but they need steering dampers. I'm the exact opposite of a builder, lol.

very few cars you ever see that have had metal moved all over the place have the lines and proportions of that 38 Chev... It is a cool piece..I'm tickled for Dale that he found someone that let him showcase his skills..It takes lots of money, skill, imagination, ingenuity, time, patience,knowledge,experience..on and on...to make a piece like it. I agree, awesome car. I was not nuts about the Henry J, mainly the roof line, however, I still thought the car was cool and out of the box.
You know, I don't think anyone has mentioned Pinkees in Colorado. I saw the KNOTWOOD at Des Moines a couple of years back, very cool and nice finish work. I like his ideas and I thought the root beer painted truck at Cobo a few years back was awesome. I loved the different ideas on that truck, very neat and out of the box.

I really do like it, any idea where it is now or do you still have it? Has this one been in Hot Rod in the past?? For some reason, I feel like I have seen it before in a mag!

Good for them. I hope more traditional "hot-rod/street-rod" types will follow that lead and start running the hell out of their cars.
Did Troy build all of them?

just the blowfish , the streamliner was the flatfire car that they bought from ron mains and changed it from a flathead to a ecotech . the 60 i dont know who built it .

Yea, I was told that they actually unofficially broke the record on the warm/test pass on the short track, in 4th @ 9000 rpm. I guess they told him to take it easy, ease into it, he did, but at 7000 rpm it was running so smooth, he went for more. So, the car was impounded, then they were going to run the next day, sounds like this one was even going to go close to 300 mph! At any rate, I presume at this point he has the record for that class.

Ha! Perfect. That's exactly why Bill and I started Musclerides (http://www.musclerides.com). We will gear our events for the 30 to 40 year olds and the kids who get it! If I hear one more Doo-Wop song at a hot rod event, I will stick a fork in my eye. Hopefully the sharp pain will drown out the noise.
The middle generation is being ignored and I WANNA ROCK! We'll get there.

It's amazing that this 32 didn't even get a pity pick at Columbus..If you look at it closely, it's more of a car than a few of the top 5 cars were if you ask me. The 32's are what Alan is known for, and that's mostly what's in his shop now, but he really likes working on the street machines. My Camaro and Cuda really excited him. Doug Cooper's Camaro he's looking to build, really has him excited.

Poteet got the Bonneville Fever real bad. I sold him Rabbits Northstar Powered 32 Roadster a few years back. George had a flat head powered 32 at Bonneville and was running 125 or so. I told him he needed to graduate and the NS powered 32 was THE Ticket. He bought it and he and all his crew flogged the snot out of it. They ran mid 180's with it. Must have made 30 passes or more with it. That Cuda is unbelievable. Glad he put that effort into a race car instead of a street machine. That would have made tough sailing for me and my Cuda.

Yea, I would say Poteet has the fever, I believe he is running three different cars out there this year! That guy has more toys that I have underwear!

From personal exprenice, when the fever to race come's over it never leave's,It just cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars in medication.to cure a sickness that is almost incureable.you can never go fast enough.

hundreds of thousands..not in Poteets case..that's just covers the tax on what he's spending..he has a entourage as big as Puff Daddy's when he goes there..takes about 15 rooms..several rigs etc. I used one of his rooms a few years ago..he wouldn't let me pay..I had to buy him some die cast he liked from GMPP to pay him..

that salt will kill anything..you think you have it all cleaned up and viola'..rust starts popping..I couldn't sleep at night after bringing my car back from there..like hearing termites eating away...that salt out there is industrial strength too

I thought it was a Jerry Bickle Drag Chassis..it would take some work to make it do what Troy wanted..not positive though..he's capable of building it for sure...sometimes it just doesn't make sense
