Some process on my '68 Camaro. Bodywork almost finished - yesterday I finished the front that has some modifications to the grill and lower valance...

Looks great! I really like the front lower valance with the 69 driving lights and the openings closed. I think this will look killer without the front bumper which is what it looks like you have planned. The lower fenders welded in look much better than stock as well. Nice job.

P.S. If you want to make me one of those lower valances for my 68 camaro send me a PM. I am serious as this is what I plan on running - already have the 69 driving lights from Fesler.

Thanks! You´re correct - there will be no front bumber, nor rear. I live in Sweden so the front valance will spend most it days on boat, both getting to me before build and then back to You... ;)

Hehe, it´s my personal garage. Spent almost a month this fall on my knees laying tiles. Takes time for a rookie :) At the end of a day in the garage, I spend some time cleaning. More fun and inspiring entering next time. Thanks btw!

Need some cabinets and a proper workbench though.

Might be a good idea to post some picures of the body when I first got it.

Besides rust, the front fenders where crooked and the rear wheelopenings cut to fit some big tires. Figured it´s a good body to learn some metalwork on. Yes I´m a noob - this is the first time for me :)

Hehe, it´s not this tidy all the time. Glad most of the welding and grinding is done though - that stuff gets everywhere...

I had those tires mounted on my OZ-wheels for awhile on my '68 SS. The slicks are used in Porsche Cup, cut some threads though so it wouldn´t get to slippery.

Thanks, everybody!

The outside of the garage is gonna get an overhaul as soon as there´s reasonable temperatures. Think I´ll move to California - too cold here! :)

Nice project and AWESOME garage!! :twothumbs

I really like the "trolly" system going across the space. What kind of capacity does the hoist have and what kind of "backbone" system do you have in place to span that kind of distance without any support posts along the way? Do you have a metal structure behind the two long walls that support the I-beam running down the middle?

Also, did you use some kind of "epoxy" grout with your tiling to make sure they didn't absorb any kinds of oil and grease? I know how clumsy I am and I spill engine and transmission oil on my floor all the time! :pat:

The hoist can lift 1500kg (~3000pounds?). There are three pillars that holds the I-beam - one almost in the middle and one at each end in the wall. It´s supported sideways by a wooden structure in the wall. As long as it lifts approx 1000lb (engine/tranny) I´m good :)

In the pictures the grout seems to be grey, but thats because it´s a little dusty after I polished the floor (to clean it the first time from grit etc). The grout is actually almost black (granite color). Choose dark cause of the reason You mentioned, so it´s not "epoxy grout"...

The stance is temporary but hopefully doable. (no front and rear clip mounted yet) The tires are just for mockup/inspiration for the builder - me =) They are 18" racing slicks, but I´m thinking 15" for a more classic look.

Took a couple of weeks finishing up the rear end. After hours of measuring, making brackets and welding - it´s now finally done.

Also bent some bars and made a roll cage out of the roll bar.

The plan was to wait with engine and transmission, but in order to be able to finish all metal work I decided to get a block and empty cylinder heads. Hopefully the alu block (sbc) arrives from the states in a couple of weeks. With block and heads in place I can make brackets and mounts for exhaust, fuel lines etc before media blast and primer.

I forget that you have to ship most of your parts in... how much $$ does it add to the deal. One thing about having to ship it in.. justifies alu or at least a good excuse.

The last order I placed, I payed approx 6.40 swedish crowns per dollar. With shipping, tolls and taxes it ended up around 8.50 sek per dollar. Still that is a good deal compared to if I were to purchase those parts from a swedish dealer, which often takes 12-14sek per dollar (excluding domestic shipping).

Don´t remember exact size. Borrowed those wheels. Think they are 235 in front. Just about to test some 28/12.5 in the back on my Aero wheels. Think it´ll fill out the wheel arches quite nice :) Sounds like You have a nice project there. Yes, go with 15"!

Love the build! Just one question? Do all Swedish men have super powers when it comes to vehicle fabrication?:lol:

I'm on a Volvo board and it seems like all the builds are extraordinary too. Keep up the great work.

My intention is to make it street legal. On the street I´ll run same type of tire but I will cut some treads on them. These are Good Year Eagle tires (Nascar) btw.

Thanks! :)

Haha! I can´t really answer that since I don´t consider myself mastering the art of vehicle fabrication. Trust me, I´m a noob. Stubborn though, very stubborn.

Many thanks!

I appreciate the skill that went into that hood, but I don't think the design suits the Camaro.

Reminds me of a '70s Duster.

I´m keeping both hoods. What bothers me is that the steel hood weighs about three times more than the Yenko hood. But as mentioned - I´m keeping both. I´m not just a "chevy guy", so I like many different vehicles/brands/manufacturers. These scoops I got inspiration from a Coronet hood with scoops, which I think similars also can be seen on some Plymouths and Darts.

Anyhow, thanks everybody! Whats so fascinating is that the hoods causes kind of a debate both on american forums and swedish. I like that! :D

Gotta continue soldering now...

I hear ya on the steel hood weight. I haven't put mine back on because the weight and size make it super awkward to install by myself, it's virtually the ONLY part I can't put back on the car alone.

But damn, doesn't yours look cool :)

When using the steel hood I´m gonna mount original hood hinges, cause my back is killing me right now... :)

I have been eyeing the spot welds that holds the "inner support" of the hood. Not sure though if the outer skin will hold its shape with the support gone. Some rigidity has been added through the scoops and the hood will be supported by all the dzus mounts. Hm, decisions desicions...

Instead of the large inner support it has, a well placed "X" shaped brace might work pretty well. Sort of like how the control arms are massive pieces of bent steel, but tubular arms are much smaller by comparison but stronger. Maybe I'm just thinking out loud here, but something to consider.

Had to abandon the weber setup. Got hold of All Pro cylinder heads (cnc) with titanium valves. Raised intake runners didn´t match my weber intake. Sold that setup and almost got all the remaining parts the motor was missing. The webers are cool, but this way the project took a big step forward (and gained approx 200hp). Nice air filter?! ;)
