There is a guy on ebay that sells info on how to fit factory style Hydraulic lifters into pre 87 small blocks.
Has anyone done this. I figure it would be about $100 cheaper than retrofit lifters. And Id feel safer with GM units.

YOull need to run the v-6 oem roller lifter with lifts over .500 the v-8 rollers are too tall in the older blocks and they come too far out of the lifter bore.

If you have a block with the stands to mount the spider, usually the bores are milled flat. All you need to do there is flatten the bosses (In some cases), then drill and tap them. You would also need to drill and tap the front of the block for the retainer plate. This info is not worth $20. There are many 1 piece blocks that came with flat tappet hyraulic cams that are this way.
Without extensive mods like welding bosses to the webbing, the factory lifters probably cannot be made to work in a pre-86 two piece block.
I would be leary of this, esp since he says all you need is a die grinder.

Cool the studs on the cam galley solves one problem, but grinding the lifter bosses by hand with a die grinder?
I'll bet most machine shops could mill them though.

That's cool, even though I have a 88 block, It's good to see some backyard engineering,
