So I have a 383ci sbc in my 61' Impala that was parked Oct 2009 with 94 octane and fuel stabilizer in the tank.

After changing some things next week I will be at 10.2:1 From 9.7:1 for compression with a 230* int and 236* exh .510 and .520 lift cam and a 110* separation.

My question is should I syphon the tank to get rid of the old fuel and put fresh fuel in it or will just adding an octane boost do the job?

how much gas is in the car? I would be safe and remove it though just my .02

A full tank, probably 60 litres or so.

Siphon as much out as possible. Fill the tank up with fresh gas - full to dilute the residual sour gas as much as possible.

If you want to use the old gas in your daily vehicles (I wouldn't put it in something that's not going to use up quickly) do not mix more than 1 liter...oh sorry, forgot you're Canadian :)...1 litre old per 5 litres fresh.

Over Xmas I got my 81 TA running for the kids to drive again. It was their high school car 4 years ago. It had a August 2008 inspection so about 2 years ago parked in storage. I was about to just prime it and start it but decided to suck some gas out to mix some fresh in(I made an setup using an extra electric pump). The gas reaked! I was shocked it smelled so bad and sucked it all out-of course almost a full tank. Now I've got 20 galons of old bad fuel to dispose of.

But I would sure check it and maybe get it all out.

If you think it smells bad out of the tank, imagine actually firing it and thinking you have diesel in the tank. OHHH the smoke show and fuel smell!!!

Today's gas doesn't live for more then 90 days in your tank. Supreme unleaded is made with the lightest and sweetest crude so it may live another month or two. AvGas (made from the best stuff!) when properly stored has a shelf life of a year BTW.

Good to know. What is Avgas?

How does using stability with new premium gas effect the life? I only run my car for 4-5 months a year.

AvGas is Aviation Gasoline:

COMPONENTS CAS NUMBER AMOUNT
Aviation Gasoline 100 %volume
Naphtha, light alkylate 64741-66-8 70 - 100 %volume
Naphtha, isomerization 64741-70-4 0 - 10 %volume
Toluene 108-88-3 0 - 20 %volume
Benzene 71-43-2 0 - 1 %volume
Tetraethyl lead 78-00-2 < 4 ml/gal
Ethylene dibromide 106-93-4 < 4 ml/gal

I don't know enough about the aftermarket additives to comment. I keep my fuel fresh by filling up with what I need so I can put the car away with minimum fuel. My winters don't involve snow so driving all year round is possible.

I was always told to keep the tank full for storage due to condensation that's why I did then I had problems with my heads and didn't drive it for a season hence the old gas now.

speaking of disposal, what is the proper procedure to ensure no citations
