No, I don't think so. They're just MTX 10" speakers with aluminum cones.

I guess I like having the option - a cruiser with tunes and a/c (that can still hold its own) or a more hard core ride with absolutely no creature comforts.

I love mechanical sounds anyday, but my car is less track-car; and more road-car, so I like to cruise with some tunes.
My setup is not much to look at, but you will feel it, a single 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 and a 6 ch amp,
The cheap 1/2" mdf box has been reinforced, added dynamat Xtreme and poly fill inside.
This is about all you can see of the audio, most of it is stealth. I'm reinstalling this from the daily driver into the Monte.

You would think, but check out the project pages of the DSE website. Most of the builds they do have a subwoofer and amps. They have just a more impressive way to mount them.

Agree somewhat, but doesn't additional weight in the back add acceleration grip, (joking). But alot of people love to listen to music while they drive especially me!!!. But I can understand why some people wouldn"t run subs. Heck if I'd pay thousands of dollars for weight saving pieces I would be damn if I put that extra weight in my car

LoL, like the wheel eh?! That is an OLD pic, I think 99 or 00! Now I have a Flaming River wood grain wheel kind of similar to a stocker wood one.

The sub is the same tho. The kicker stuff I got in 99 or 00. Heck, in all honesty I hardly ever even turn it on! Lol Now I have an optima back there too.

To some, sound performance is just as important as track performance. Comes down to YOUR definition of "Pro-Touring". I don't think Pro-"Touring" (emphasize the touring) is about race cars that you can take to the grocery store. To me, it's the other way around, grocery getter that can haul it on the track. Not to debate the almighty PT def... I'm doing a great sounding system.

Yes Jimmy I like the wheel, I bought a blue grant steering wheel recently, just was wondering if mine would look like yours. . Plus I agree with you fully Will, performance can be judged so many different ways!!! Sound, handling, acceleration, braking, top speed, mpg, life expectancy, etc

No sir. Loud is good. Nobody says you have to turn it on when you are in the mood for natural tunes. These are lightweight, take less space, and they rock. Technology is a good thing. You wouldn't be able to tell I have a bluetooth hands free kit either. The mic is in the hole left behind by the air vent hand pull. One hand on the wheel, the other on the shifter and a happy wife. Otherwise I would never have a clue if someone calls, but that is also a great thing. Stops the tunes and rings through the speakers.

They have speaker grills on them now and there is another amp on the other side too. Covered in leather and newbies don't even notice. Forget the spare tire idea though.

After it's finished all you'll see are the small square centers of each amp where the JBL logo is.

I have a single 12" Kenwood 1200W sub that I have facing the rear seat behind the amps. I have 4 speakers then on each door. 1" tweeter, 4" mid-bass, 6.5" woofer and a 5.25" coaxial speaker. I have everything being powered from the stock head unit to keep things as low key as possible. Thankfully back in my younger days when I installed an aftermarket head unit I kept my original stereo. It's tape deck has been screwed up for years and years so I pulled it apart, cut a few wires and installed an aux input for an MP3 player that will get hidden under the compartment door for the ashtray.

I've fired it up a few times to see how it sounds and it's absolutely one of the cleanest sounding systems I've ever had. Pretty amazing considering it's a hodge podge of parts.

I'm going to need every bit of volume from this system to hear it over the engine. :)

Here's the first and only box I've ever built. It's mounted under the package tray and fires up through the factory speaker hole. It's painted in factory trunk spatter to blend in as much as possible. It's about 1.25' sealed with a 12" DVC Image Dynamics sub. I've got Phoenix Gold amps mounted on either side now.

Looks nice. Just curious why, if those speakers are only 2.5" thick, you need so much room for them. whats on the other side besides an amp? Im consolidating my 3 10's down to a single 10" for reduced weight and luggage space.

Yeah, I was going to mention it didn't look like a bandpass box.

When I was younger I had two 10" subs in a bandpass box.

Looked very similar to this:

The subs fired at each other inside a sealed enclosure in the center and the rear of the subs were in a separate enclosure that was ported like you see.

I've found bandpass boxes to be good if you like really "boomy" style bass. Where as a sealed box like I have my current sub gives you tigher, crisper bass and I believe a ported box like yours above falls somewhere in between the two. Obviously speaker size will play a role in the sound as well.
