I am building a 68 camaro rs with a ls6 engine might use the th350 for now depending how far this is going to set me back , but planes are to go t56.I have been all over the place, looking to see what motor mount plate, oil pan, headers, and so on work best for the swap, i see alot of people on this site swaps are up and running strong , please any info would help. I have seen on ls1tech about the modded 4th gen f-body pan that does not allow you to use a baffle or windage tray is bad and can damage bearings. please tell me what you used for your swap. thank you Kevin

I believe the lh8 pan will work - its from the hummer h3 or the small trucks its based off. Canton makes one. Retrolsx sells their own. There are any number of pans out there but the lh8 is prolly your cheapest. It would be nice to know if there is one with the oil sensor built into the tree above the filter. As well, there are a lot of companies manufacturing headers and mounts. The trick is to find some that work together to make sure you have adequate clearance. From what I've read, Hooker's headers and mounts will work together. If you search "LS swap" on summit racing you'l find matched kits come up making life a little easier. I'm sure others will chime in with their favourites and hopefully something economical for you.

S&P "style" mounts (a lot of them put the engine in the same place) and Stainless Works headers is what I'm using. The LH8 oil pan will hang down way too far in my opinion. I modified a F-Body pan far less than S&P does and it works. I just extended the oil pickup tube a little bit, added an additional support and modified the baffle in the sump so I could keep it. Stock windage tray is fine, no problems. If I had to do it over again I would have just bought the Autokraft pan to save the time.

The key is to get mounts and headers that you know work together.

Also keep in mind if you are going to keep the stock style steering box/rear steer setup. Some guys convert to rack & pinion. As mentioned above, try to package as much of the swap parts together as possible so that everything is designed to work together- headers/mounts/motor plates/cross member. This will ease the swap & help ensure you keep the drive line angle within specs. If you can swing the 6 speed, try to get it in now because it will cost you more in the long run- time & money- to swap it later. Take some pics of your progress...

Does the oil filter mount to the autokraft pan or do you need to remote mount it?

I am working through the same issue as you. just an FYI my research has come up with BRP muscle rods for a complete kit, as well as ATS. S&P makes a kit as well but I haven't spoke with them so far. SD parts has a pan that they say works Pn #19212593. I think I am leaning toward the BRP kit or ATS. But Please any experts out there correct me or add to this, to be honest I'm surprised there hasn't been a sticky on Ls swaps for first gens.

There's been a bunch of guys who have build threads, you have to search through and decide which way to go. Plus there's retrolsx and ls1tech. The mods might consider it an endorsement but it would be nice to know what headers which with which mounts and with which tranny cross member - like a what is your combination type deal. Actually that's not a bad idea. Let's see if someone will put one up before I get back from A&W.

I don't think the retrolsx is available any longer. Holley bought the tooling. I think the new MAST cast pan is one of the better options available, assuming it is finally shipping. BRP places the engine high and forward and uses the LH8 pan which is not too optimal on all counts.

Yeah I just spoke with BRP and they said that their headers wont work with the 600 steering box and not sure who's would, guess I will be doing some more calling. I heard the Holley stuff is designed to work with the hooker headers but I couldn't find 1-7/8 plus I haven't heard many good things about them. Any other ideas out there?

I would take a look at Edelbrock headers and mounts combined with the recommended Milodon pan or the Mast pan.

yes lowered 2inch in front and back and it doesnt scrape on speedbumps or anything like that. i'll get a pic, but my oilpan doesnt have a scratch on it.

Where does the BRP setup put the engine?

it does come forward slightly and up a little but everything fit right and i could run the a/c down low in the factory vette location and keep it out of sight. i don't care for the kwik perf brackets putting it up high and sticking out on passenger side

Thanks for the info. Its nice to know there's at least one set of mounts that let you use the lh8 pan. I'm still going to wait for the holley pan though just to be safe.

I'm just starting this swap, and I have LS swap overload from LS1tech too!! lol.... I like the ideas here. Hifi875 can you take a pic of your car from ground level, I want to see if the pan hangs down below collector or front crossover... Also did you notch the crossover to fit the factory Vette AC setup?
