12 years after being imprisoned in storage building # 12 I am headed in a new direction with an old project. Was once headed toward the NMCA. Now I'm headed in the pro touring direction. We'll see what happens.

Looks like a nice start. I really like Impala's and I liked Muscle Car's Red Sled build although it was a little too bling for me. Keep us posted and Roll Tide!

Looks good. What are your plans for it?

More go than show. Originally I had wanted to build a street car that would be competitive in NMCA drag racing. Now, I want to drive it...alot. I also want it to handle and stop. Not really into the whole show thing, but I am going to make it as nice as my budget allows. Most definitely will have a 409 and a 5 speed.

Morrison makes areal user friendly piece. The "new to me" table top has worked out great. Long story behind what/where it came from...suffice it to say it's sweet. Literally.

Lilbuzzy,
I have a magazine article that was scanned and emailed to me about boxing and plating the X frame cars. They are PDF files and I can email them to you if you are interested.

Even before you said anything - I could tell that was an AME front clip. There's just something about their craftmanship - quite easy to spot. I went with them for the entire kit and kaboodle, and could not be happier with their service, craftmanship, and the entire experience in general.

AH!!! I love the old school motor. What are the plans for the motor? Whats the difference between a 348 to a 409? If I remember correctly the 409 with two four barrels had 425 horsepower stock from the factory.

lilbuzzy
05-10-2011, 06:13 PM
go to this site. you will learn everything you need to know about W motors. i plan on a lot of different stuff for this motor.

thanks for the encouragement. yours is coming along as well. i see wheels and tires in your profile pic. gotta save save save so i can spend spend spend. if you know what i mean? more and more people would like to build em, but until roadster shop or ironworks comes out with a chassis that pretty much bolts in, i think people will choose other body styles.

I agree with you but sadly I doubt someone will because I don't know that the cars are popular enough. I would even be OK with a weld in setup but I have yet to see anything for these cars that improves the factory geometry. What geometry is your clip based on? I have been trying to think how I could get C5 front suspension under the front of my car without spending enough money to finance a small war but I may have to go your route.

lilbuzzy
01-08-2012, 06:13 PM
its the morrison gt ifs set up. so its based on c6 geometry. they offer it in a couple of different track widths. kind of a bugger to do unless you do that kind of stuff all the time. and when your a thick git like me, it takes way longer than it should! do you think man u will ever get it together this season?

Both Ironworks and Roadster Shop do indeed produce a chassis now. I know it would be cheaper and easier to just buy one done. But at the time I did not have that option.

RPM hotrods makes a custom frame with the help of the roadster shop. Its an awesome piece of craftsmanship

lilbuzzy
01-23-2012, 08:07 PM
Looks like some assembly required! Nice one but where and what do all those body mount tabs fasten to? Must have to have a custom floor. Still nice though. A lot easier to fix some sheetmetal than build a frame.

gofastwclass
01-23-2012, 11:25 PM
Wow, that frame looks pretty killer. I know the answer since I have to ask but I wonder how much it is... The frame may cost more than I have in the car so far.

01-24-2012, 10:21 AM
nice job onthe build. you can add a perimeter frame to the orig. frame to stiffen the chassis up if you want .i think i might even have some templates from when i did that to mine.let me know if you need any picts. or the templates. have you ever looked at the factory drive shaft and wondered why they ate carrier bearings?go look at it again and pay close attention to were the slip is. you are going to want to make a new driveshaft with the slip on the correct end and your problem will be solved forever. keep up the good work.

lilbuzzy
01-24-2012, 06:32 PM
some pics might be nice. do you have a pic of the drive shaft you are talking about? when i was hot rodding the car around in the early nineties i had a one piece chevelle unit in it. had to trim just a bit, but had good luck with it.
