I know this sounds weird but I didn't hear this noise until the day after I replaced my power steering pump. I'm horrible at deciphering engine noises so I was wondering if any LS junkies out there has heard this before or knows what it is.
I'm not sure if power steering pumps "chirp" lol It's an aftermarket one (PSC) if that makes any difference.
Anyway, here's a vid of what it sounds like:

Thanks to anyone taking the time to listen and help me out, this is driving me crazy! (no pun intended) Engine is a 98 LS1.

It sounds belt related... is that a new pulley?

thanks for responding - do you mean the little tensioner on the water pump?

I called my noise a mouse under the hood, order a gatorback belt 4060790 here is a link to one cheap.

you either A. do not have the power steering pulley on all the way. or B. on too far. if its a stock GM pulley then it has a bottom out stop so you know your all the way on.

given you just changed pumps i'd check this first, then look at the belt & tensioner.

Well, I got the pulley off. Inspected it, and the front of it looks fine, but the back has these streaks. I don't know if they're stress cracks or if this is normal or what.
I took this pics with a macro lens; hopefully they show up ok:

Have you guys seen this before?
Thanks again for all the help

yes. its power steering fluid that has leaked out when the pulley is turning. it is a plastic composite pulley with a steel bushing that holds it onto the pump. just clean it off with brake cleaner and reinstall. i put just a touch of grease on the shaft of the pump to help the install go smoother.

Sounds like a belt noise to me. Easy way to tell is to get a bar of soap and put it on the ribs as it runs. It might not be a bad idea to get a gatorback belt anyways, they do last longer and are more stable at high RPMS, should run about $35 and most NAPA's stock them.
