We got a call from a friend indicating that he knew of a one owner 67 Camaro for sale locally. We were not looking for another car as we are still working on our house project that has been going on for over a year now.
I told my friend that I would keep my ears open for anyone looking for a project as it was told that this car needed some love.
About a week later the friend called back stating that, the one owner lady didn't want to go through the hassle of dealing with strangers... so she was offering the car to one of us within the group and now the asking price was $5,000.
Humm... $5K....Well, I at least had to go and look at it. So I started to make the introduction to my wife Laurie about that car. I did a little research and did some comparisons and I set the appointment to meet the owner.
The morning of the appointment we both were getting cold feet...we started asking ourselfs are we crazy for even considering another project around our household? But we also felt this deal...? may be one of those that I would be talking about a year later of how it was the one that got away. The bottom line was that we decided that we should at least look at it and that in a worse case senario we could sell it and hopefully get our money back out...
To make a long story longer...we fell in love with the car. I found it to be a solid car with minimal rust and is all originall with nothing missing. It is the identical car to my Camaro prior to my build with the exception of the coupe vs the convt. It turned out it is a Los Angeles Van Nuys car that was purchased in Newport Beach...always a California car, numbers matching 327 motor and 2 spd power glide... and it includes the cool story of this one owner as a single lady who purchased it in her 30's.
We pulled the trigger and made the purchase. Laurie is hooked and calls it her car (she looks great driving it)...she spent some time in the garage with me cleaning and inspecting the car. She even got on the internet with me to inspect potential future upgrades and wheel and tire combos.
So after some days with the car, driving it and enjoying it, we have come to some basic ideas of the restoration and build. I know I may get some flack for this, but I already have a full on Pro Touring ride...and this is going to be something a little different for Laurie.
This is going to be my wife's project "Rainy Day" as my car is a full time Convt.
We are going for a hidden vintage pro touring vibe with with a rat rod spirit....Say what? yes I said that right...a Camaro rat rod with hidden vintage pro touring drivability.
So stay tuned as I have already started documenting the car prior to any changes. Parts are being purchased and ideas are flying and are being bench talk tested.
