View Full Version : Other "Great Race" style rallys?

Today I happened to stumble across a documentary on the Mille Miglia road race in Italy and it reminded me of the Great Race that's staged here every year. Looking forward to the completion of my current project, I though it'd be a great way to get out and see the country and get to know a few fellow gearheads. When looking into the current requirements for admission to the Race I quickly realized that a muscle car with modern drivetrain and suspension would likely never be admitted. My honest reasoning for wanting to enter is simply seeing the country fly by the window, but a little bit of competition keeps things interesting. I've contemplated doing the Power Tour, but due to the lack of a common goal, it doesn't have the same allure to me. The Gumball seems to be more about the sponsors, nightlife, and lifestyle than anything else, and I'm assuming the entry fee is a little steep accordingly.

Are there any other attainable timed rally across the country, similar to the great race, that would allow admission of an updated (suspension/drivetrain swap) late '60's car similar to what you'd find here?

One Lap of America may be a little less rally than you are looking for but is very competitive a load of "fun". Targa Newfoundland, which we're hoping to take a shot at next year, is a true road rally but is pretty hard core and a modern PT style car will end up in the open class. There is always the Chihuahua Express or the Carrera Panamerica...

I feel a little embarrassed that I forgot about One Lap. That's actually right in line with what I'd like doing, as long as the bugs are sorted out first.
I'll have to look into the others. It sounds as if there's a lot more available than I first thought.
