Ok, enough sleeping. Time to uncover the '68, turn up the heat and start working on my updates list for this winter.

I don't have a build thread on here as the car was started back in 2000 and finished just after I joined this site but I'm doing some mods this winter and am going to post up those as they come along. Today's project was installing a more era appropriate shifter for my T56. I'm a sucker for chrome Hurst shifters and have wanted to put one in for some time.

So here is the new shifter in all its chrome glory.

First step is to take out the console which isn't too bad as it is only held in with 6 screws.

Then with the console out of the way time to remove the aluminum wiring tunnel, undue the shifter floor plate, the shifter boot and pop the shifter out.

I like how the Hurst shifters now come with a new plastic fitting cup for the shifter ball so I popped that in as well.

Installed the new shifter, re-installed the shifter plate, installed the new boot, re-installed the aluminum wiring tunnell and whala - a more appropriate chrome Hurst shifter. I like the throw of this better as well and might even stick with the black knob that this new shifter came with. I had a '69 442 with an original black knob and always liked how that looked.

Well I'm done for today. Not putting the console back in yet as I'm upgrading the stereo head unit and moving the IPod dock. My current head unit is from 2003 and needless to say, technology has changed a bit. I can't even control the new IPods as my controller is so old LOL.
