My Dad is in the new Chevy Ad Campaign!

A couple of months ago, I was on another forum that I frequent and a member there posted that a friend of his worked for an ad agency that was handling Chevrolet's account. They were looking for vintage pictures of Chevrolets with their owners, and I just happened to have a picture on my computer that met that description, so I sent it in. Its of my dad, in May of 1961, sitting on the fender of his 348-powered 1960 Impala, with several drag racing trophies he had won with it. I thought it was a long shot, but sent it anyway. To my surprise, within 5 minutes I had a response, and they wanted to use the picture! As things progressed, they decided to use it not only on TV, but Facebook (it was the profile picture for several weeks), on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsILAyAqMFQ , and Twitter. I gave them all my dad's info for the release, and that was the extent of my involvement. To his surprise, he not only received an initial payment of about $1200, he has received royalty payments pretty regularly since then, to the tune of about $8,500! Most of that is going towards a joint project between us...the '57 Chevrolet Belair 2 dr hardtop that was my first car, and now belongs to my 12 year old son. Its getting a stroked LQ9/T56, C5/6 IFS, and a 9" with a 3 link. It will have a classic look, but a definite Pro Touring attitude.

I don't think they were on the car yet in the pic, but my dad had a local drag racer (he lived in NC then) widen the stock steel rear wheels for him. Ever hear of Ronnie Sox...later of Sox & Martin...Mr. 4-speed?
Unfortunately, the car (and the wheels), are long gone, but my dad has an ashtray in his shop made with one of the original 348 pistons, and still has all the trophies (in his attic!). I'm going to display a blown up version of the pic, along with the trophies, in my showroom.
