Tomorrow, Velocity (http://www.ridetech.com/garage/2010/11/velocity-at-barrett-jackson/) goes to the auction block, which means there are only a couple more reports left. Be sure to turn on the SPEED channel tomorrow evening to catch the auction. Here’s Bret Voelkel, reporting LIVE (almost) from Scottsdale:
“I’m going to call this “Massive Thursday”. The crowd here today looks like a Saturday! I can’t wait to see what Saturday brings. It doesn’t hurt that the weather is perfect…mid 70’s and sunshine… very meaningful to us Hoosiers this time of year!
Remember the pair of Bugatti Veyrons I referred to yesterday? They were out cruising around this morning. I’m still trying to calculate the net worth necessary to afford a $2,000,000 car. Only at Barrett Jackson! And by the way…what is the correct plural of “Veyron”? I’ve never heard of anyone needing the answer to that.
Beautiful cars and cubic dollars seem to draw hot women. As with everything else here that scenario is amplified by several multiples. You just don’t see this stuff in the cornfield! My wife tells me that she hasn’t seen any of these women’s clothes at WalMart.
A few years ago they implemented a “test track” in the parking lot…also known as an autocross to the rest of us. In addition to the Corvette and Mustang ride-alongs, you can actually drive a more pedestrian Impala, F150, Cadillac or even a new Volt. I couldn’t hang around long over there without going into serious withdrawal, considering Velocity was mere yards away and not able to participate!
I must commend the Barrett Jackson staff. They have everything covered. They must send their security staff to monthly sensitivity training… I have seen them handle some pretty self-important people here with grace and expertise. The driver staff that moves the cars around are top notch as well… lots of ego to contend with in addition to the sometimes priceless cars.
A little piece of “power candy” that I saw while lurking around the GM display… a new E-rod LSA engine that makes 556 Hp and 551 torque! Having just put their 430-horse E-rod package in our ‘66 Chevelle, I am completely impressed with that concept and am drooling over this additional 120+ Hp increase! I’m told this is basically the CTS-V engine, and for $15,000 retail… there is one of these in my future!
As I said yesterday, things are picking up every day…better cars, more people, bigger prices, even better weather…2 more days until Velocity is…gone forever!
Till tomorrow…”
