Bret Voelkel continues his journey at the Barrett Jackson auction at Scottsdale. This was his report from last night:
“It has been said that the Barrett Jackson auction is one of the ultimate car experiences. Beyond the massive assembly of some of the finest cars in the world, the rest of the Barrett experience is just stunning. It is one radical experience after another.
They start setting up the 200,000 sq. Ft. Tent in early december, nearly 60 days before the auction starts. The power requirement are so massive for the event that the city of Scottsdale cannot support it…they have to run about 50 huge generators to supply everything. All the bathroom facilities are housed in mobile trailers or porta-potties. Parking passes are way more valuable than entry passes and are bartered on the black market. Some bidders fly in the the local Scottsdale airport and are shuttled the 2miles to the facility via helicopter. I cannot fathom the logistical co-ordination neccessary to pull this deal off!
Its been a busy day so my update is late. Since i was in town i paid a visit to my buddy Todd Gartshore at Baer Brakes which is only about 10 miles from the auction site. Baer just moved into a new 60,000 sq. ft. facility about a year ago. Sweet place! I snapped just a couple of pictures cof some of the stuff they were working on at the time. We have used a lot of Baer’s products in the past…it was cool to see how it was all made!
The already ample crowd will start building all week…i am told that we could see 200,000 people here on Saturday. The weather is perfect, and the buyers seem to be in a good mood. Im really looking forward to saturday evening!
I’ve included just a few miscellaneous shots for today. I’ll try to get better shots tomorrow. Until then…!”
