A few moments ago as we were about to put our 5-year-old son to bed, I found him crying in his mother's arms. I asked, "What's the matter buddy?" He said, "I don't wanna grow up." He was being sincere and it something that's been bothering him lately. So I told him, "Don't worry about it buddy. You don't have to grow up. I didn't grow up, just ask Grandpa. He'll tell you I never did." I carried him to be and told him he didn't have to if he didn't want to and just wait till I show him about firecrackers and and his trans am.
Here's to being a dad and the sons that keep them young.

Awsome reply to your son. When my boy was about four he asked what kind of toys we had to play with at work. Without thinking I told him we didn't have any toys. His reply was "That's sad daddy". Later at work when I sat down for lunch I opened my box and found a hotwheel car tucked nicely on top. That was cool.

Dude! Im too sentimental to hear that kind of stuff. Too cool. :D

I've recently rediscovered the joy of Hotwheels with my 4yo. We've spent HOURS drag racing them every weekend since Christmas.

What an awesome story! Plus one to GrabberGT. I love my kid and I'm the one that doesn't want him to grow up!

Whoa! Flashback! I had the exact same experience with my 5 year old last year, and I said almost the exact same thing. I showed him that my toys are bigger, but they're still just toys, and explained we're all just big kids. :)

BTW, everyday I wonder where the pause button is... it goes way too quickly sometimes.

I felt the same way, and when there 18+ you really miss them, so I devised a plan!! I bought a vacation home on the beach (shell beach) a boat house on don pedro, and now they visit me all the time and spends weekends and sometimes weeks at a time during the summer with me! and better than that now they bring their children!

Man, this thread brought a tear to my eye. I read it to my wife and kids and we had a good laugh. I'm lucky to have a 14 year old son that really enjoys wrenching on our car projects but I know those days are fleeting. Here's one thing that really cracked me up when he was about four or five. I asked him what he was going to do when he grew up and he thought for a minute and said "I'm going to touch the stove". LOL, I guess we had always said that you couldn't touch it until you grow up.
