Greetings – this is my first post here, so I thought I’d show off our favorite toy.

This 6 year project began as a straight, rust and dent-free original California black plate specimen. Over $90k in receipts document the rebuild of this one-of-a-kind classic 2-seat AMX. 90% new old stock (NOS) using original AMC parts. We took what has always been a unique American Muscle Car and made it even more unique. Totally updated in every way, but still maintains a tastefully executed original factory appearance – with a build quality AMC could only have dreamt about. It rides and handles like no ’69 AMX ever did.

Fully updated interior features high grade soft leather bucket seats and dash padding, pleated vinyl door panels, 72oz. cut pile carpet, fully finished and carpeted trunk, custom rear deck enclosure for sound system components w/trunk access, overhead console, custom padded felt headliner, padded vinyl A-pillars, visors, roof rails, front & rear windshield trim, and quarter panel sail trim, dual overhead map lights/dome lamp, 14” Grant GT mahogany steering wheel, NOS factory AM radio and speaker, NOS gauges. DynaMat Extreme installed everywhere before being closed up. Heavily modified but still looks as if it could have been built this way by AMC at the factory. Hypnotizing new car leather smell!

Under the hood is a 1970 390 AMX, blueprinted and flow bench tested. Professional rebuild by Rocky Mountain Competitive Research (RMCR builds Pikes Peak Hill Climb race cars) includes .040 over bore, Howells programmed electronic fuel injection, Mopar manifold, Headman HTC-Coated headers, BadLanz high performance key-fob controlled electric exhaust cutouts and 3” black chrome side outlets (in addition to factory dual exhaust), FlowKool Water Pump, Ron Davis Racing aluminum radiator w/dual Spaal electric fans, additional thermostat-controlled 14” fan for added AC cooling, stainless braided hoses, Billet-style coolant recovery tank, Bilstein shocks, electric fuel pump. Block and heads were cryo-treated before reassembly. Larry Mitchell Gymkhana suspension front & rear, factory 4spd. Hurst shifter w/3:54:1 limited slip differential.

This AMX gets attention and two-thumbs up everywhere it goes. By far one of the nicest examples of a modified stock genuine American Muscle car from the era - regardless of make and model. A consistent award winner whenever shown (it last scored 199/200 points in the AMX-Modified Stock Class at the AMO/St. Louis International Show in 2009. Earned "Best Modified Stock," "Best Interior," and "Best Mopar/AMC" at Southwest Muscle Car Nationals in Albuquerque.

Thanks! It's a ton of fun to drive. It's amazing to hear how many people have no idea what it is when they see it.
