I want my car to be custom and different than any other 79 firebird. So im contemplating building a 301 turbo motor i have from an 80 TTA parts car i had. I have found a couple places that make stuff for the 301 motor, but mostly everything ive found so far has to be custom made. I think the design of the 301 is good(for the time), it was more aimed twords economy than power. But the 301T made more TQ than the previous year 400ci... I'm planning on getting a N/A 301 4bbl manifold and puttin that on in order to change it to a blow though system instead of the cruddy draw through it was originally(another economy idea). It has a 4" bore with a 3" stroke. The other thing i was thinking of was building a TT 400ci.... Which i think i might go with that instead, but thats for a different thread, anyone know of any companies that make performance stuff for the 301T?

Go with plan B and build a TT 400. Use the 301 as a boat anchor.

:) How'd i know i was gonna hear that analogie.. :) I'm figuring im gonna only go with single turbo. a guy in HPP turbocharged his 455 in his 79 T/A for under $1k. I wanna make my car a low budget but high performer. its gonna be mostly street driven, with the occasional jaunt to a street track. BTW I LOVE your goat man. I figure i can get a 467 stroker kit for like $2k with moly rings, crank balanced, 166 tooth flywheel, HD dampner and MSD distibutor. Problem is the pistons are flat topper, id prefer dished to drop the CR so when i boost it 10PSI it wont kill me with detonation. I'm gonna be running 93 octane and a custom made methly/water injection system. do you think thats a good price? Heres the site:

Someone I used to know had a 301 Turbo engine in his Trans Am replica. He was looking for a part and he called the local Pontiac dealer and they told him POntiac never made a 301. So yeah it is a boat anchor. Parts are kind of rare.

I found it hard enough building a Pontiac motor in a Chevy/Ford world without building a 301 Pontiac. Personally, I like those that go for more interesting choices in engine and body style but if you're trying to do it on the cheap, I think you're working against yourself with the 301. I converted my stroked 400 to EFI so I can build some experience that will allow me to do a turbo down the road.
If you're adamant about turbo'ing a 301, there is an active post in the Q&A section here by some 301 diehards: Classical Pontiac (http://www.classicalpontiac.com/)
and if you do a search on this site, you will also find some turbo Pontiacs: Performance Years (http://forums.performanceyears.com/6/ubb.x)
Good luck!
